Why won't my "add coolant" light shut off?

man,

today the buzzer just went on and won't shut off. I added water but still buzzing. Funny thing is it was right after hooking my power door locks back up which isn't working. The uh...anti theft system and power door locks totally do not work anymore. The yellow "armed" light on the center console doesn't light up or nothing.

I think it might be a defective warning light cluster because the clock always resets to 1:00 when I shut the car off and also it was acting funny when I open trunk it says the trunk and doors are opened. Weird.

anybody have experience with this? where's the power door lock relays at? and how should I trouble shoot this power door lock system?

thanks!
Dave

There is a sensor on top of the radiator with one wire. Its a sensor. If the sensor does not get wet with the water in the radiator it will not put a ground on the circuit and will cause a buzzzz. Air gets trapped there in the radiator. The filler cap may show water, but air is trapped in the top of the radiator. On my 87 there is a plug in the right side of the radiator. Plastic plug. Has slots for a screwdriver. When filling the car with water, remove the plug and fill the car with water until water flows out of the plastic plug mentioned above. when that happens put the plug back in and continue filling until topped off. If you followed this procedure and still get a buzz, then you probably have a air/water leak b/t the overflow bottle and the filler. That hose that runs b/t them might have a air/water leak. Or perhaps the radiator cap is defective and is dumping water into the overflow because its defective. Get another. But you have to bleed the system as described above to make the buzz go away.

did you try bleeding the air out of the coolant system with the bleed screw on the top left of the radiator, or did you just fill it up??? It will need bled to get the air out of the system and the buzzer to go out.

You might also want to check the wire going to the sender on the top of the rad. If it is severed or unplugged, it will turn on the light. As for your alarm, get a phillips head screwdriver, some WD-40, and some sandpaper. Open the doors, remove the small rubber-covered plungers from the B-Pillar, and soak them in WD-40, and get rid of any rust on the plunger, and on the door jam with the sandpaper. Make sure the plunger slides freely, and that should help the alarm to work properly. If not, the problem will be in the lock switch, which controls the alarm. Good luck,

Nick

How do you bleed the system if it is full?

The same way described above, just unscrew the bleed screw.

You have a 86. Unless its been monkey fucked with, you will find on the right end of the radiator (sitting in the car, looking forward, right is to your right side and left to your left side. All references to a car as far as right and left should be made with this idea in mind. That way we all know which direction to look) a screw in the side of the radiator. About the size of a quarter. To fill the car, take the fill cap off and pour water or antifreeze in. At the same time have the plug in the side of the radiator screwed all the way out. When water starts coming out of the quater size hole, put the plug back in and continue filling to the top. Air SHALL, WILL, be trapped in the top of the radiator if you do not follow these instructions. Must be in the manual somewhere. The sensor MUST be in contact with the water in the radiator to shut off the buzzer. Yeah, check and make sure the wire itself is not cut or broken somewhere. Best way to do that is put a meter on the end and look for b/t .5 and 1 volt. If I remember right it'll be something like .6 volts. Immersed in the radiators water it drops to a lesser figure.

mine goes off anyway, even when full. so i took the easy way out, ran a wire to a body ground and spliced into that wire....no more buzz. be sure to watch those coolant levels if you have a leak!!!

Check under your water pump with a mirror for signs of coolant coming out of the bleed hole in the bottom of the pump - if the pump is going bad and loseing coolant through the weep hole low pressure will set off the sensor in the rad - as a temp measure to get rid of the buzzer you can ground the sensor wire and this will shut it off.
