Why is my steering rack making noise?
O **** Scott thank u for that bit of advice! The accident that I had gotten in to bent my control arm 2 degrees and messed up the ball joint a little bit.....I didn't have the money to order the parts from the tire place that performed my alignment and I was just going to grab some parts from someone around here. I could grab a used control arm easy I am sure. Are ball joints expensive or do they only come as part of the control arm?

to be honest, i'm not really sure on RX-7's as of yet. heck, i'm still trying to get one. but all i know is that it depends on the car. on my eclipse, the ball joint was built onto the lower control arm (about $90 per side), on some cars they're pressed in and you have to have a special tool to get it out and put it back in, and on some you can get lucky enough to just unbolt it and be good to go. but these cars i just don't know. but i do know that any time you replace anything like a ball joint or a tie rod end, you wanna make sure you get an alignment. camber plates, for example too.....if you do anything like this, you wanna make sure it's aligned. it's not something you can see by the eye to get into specs and depending on how bad it is, you could be buying some new tires in a matter of 2 or 3 months. i'd imagine that it wouldn't cost anymore than $100 though. they aren't usually too expensive though. but don't quote me on it on these cars. hope i've helped some though.

Bought an 88 vert 2 days ago. Heard something very similar this morning. It is bumming me bad as it is too soon to have buyer's remorse! I had my wife turn the wheel while I listened and it did not sound like the rack, more like linkage. But I didn't know the strut rotated, and snap-crackle-pop of bearings would make that sound.

i bought a 91 GXL last weekend and it doesnt make the noise.
my turboII was the one that made the steering rack noise and then it blew up! maybe this means your new vert is going to blow up... just kidding man.
i hope someone comes in here and fixes the problem
