WHY ME?! Help me out here...

Ok. I have been having a off and on affair with mild hesitation, but it never came to a head. Until today. Yesterday, I pulled codes 12 and 13 from the ecu. I KNOW I got 13 from pulling the boost sensor while it was running, I wanted to be sure I was getting the codes out right. I am driving and it seems that only on deceleration, I get a slight jump in gas every 3-4 seconds and I have exhaust farts every now and then.

Problems:
-Check engine light comes on whenever my foot is completely off the gas, if I even get .001 inch on it, it goes away.
-A pop every now and then from the exhaust (never happened before today)
-Error code 12, I haven't checked it again because I am at my GF's and its her birthday, and there are no wires to be found.
-Idle has gotten to where it will idle fine, but when it farts, the idle drops to about 650-600 then resumes normal idle

Car Specs:
81K ALL stock besides routine things, spark plugs are about 12K old. Wires are orig.

Any suggestions? TIA

Joe

hey man.....when i checked the codes on mine last week i also got 12. AND code 18. one is the low range, and the other is the high range for the TPS.

but after i put the new TPS in, the car has been fine...revs up fine and no farts at all. buuut, i'm not sure that if you get a code, that it means the TPS can be further adjusted.....or that if you get the code you need to replace it. i'm not sure.

on my trip home from getting the car...i ALSO got the check engine light when i took my foot off the gas pedal (well, at times anyway...like coming on an off ramp).

now i checked the BAC valve today and it wasn't giving the resistance i thought it should and when i unplugged it the motor didn't change idle at all...so that might be shot on mine.....hopefully that'll be the last problem with it.

good luck man, i'm sure you'll get plenty more replies

I'm hoping its the low range error with the TPS....I don't know till I check the codes again which should be sometime tommorow...does anyone know or have a TPS for a 89-91 TII?

Make sure to test yours before you write it off.

All you have to do is get a multimeter and set it to resistance, unplug the TPS, and push in the plunger and let it out slowly. The change in resistance should be very smooth, with no spikes.

How does it hesitate? When you're going from off-throttle to on throttle and vice versa no matter what RPM you are in any gear? A misadjusted or bad TPS would explain the pops and farts in the exhaust.

Q:How does it hesitate?
-0 throttle to throttle it has a little bump, when decelerating it (0 throttle) it's like it wants to give it a little gas (would that be the low range ecu fix where it puts the TPS signal to 20%?)

Q:When you're going from off-throttle to on throttle and vice versa no matter what RPM you are in any gear?
-It does that, its definately not smooth sometimes, in 5th gear it can cause a nice rock.

A misadjusted or bad TPS would explain the pops and farts in the exhaust.
-I got em.

Thanks!

Ok I got to check it again, and still came out with code 12. I am guessing since it only comes on after I take my foot off, its the low range of it, its failing and HOLY MOTHER OF BUDDHA I just talked to the parts guy...290.change for a new TPS...that bites. So I am going to test it with a digi meter this afternoon hopefully. It only seems to do it after the car is warmed up, I can't say for sure (the light comes on about 40 minutes after starting and starts misbehaving....)

yeah, i really gotta register and insure mine so i can take it out more than the 15 minutes i've been doing. i guess only then will i know if the new TPS is worthy...
