Why does my car have a kickdown switch?

The switch on the accelerator I was trying to ID yesterday I found on p81 of the shop manual. Here it is a kickdown switch. Why would mazda put a kickdown switch on a manual trans car?

Maybe it was a 5 speed swap car? Maybe had an auto when it was bought.

not to mention, theres always that fine line when tethe cost of the switch and the cost of installing the switch with an automated machine is cheaper than the cost of implementing a secondary options line that doesn't install it.
