Why do you reset the ecu?

I've searched and stuff, and I keep finding people mentioning HOW to reset the ecu, but no one's explained why you want to do this. Do you want to do this after mods to compensate for more flow?

Sorry, newb question :P

Because sometimes, it gets rid of gremlins...

I've done it on my S4 also, even though certain guys keep telling me the ECU's on S4's don't "reset"...Maybe my car's special, lol...
