Why do FD's look down on FC's?

Is it just me or do the third gen owners seem like there car is alot better than the 2nd gen. Granted it is newer and faster stock but also usually $10k more. With $10k in my TII I am sure it would kill a 3rd gen any way you look at it. Just venting.

Thumbs up 2nd Gen's are the awesome

I guess it's because they think or refer to anything that is old or "outdated" = that it's slow and inferior. The FD owners around here are pretty cool though. They don't dis my car it's just that they don't really care about the FC or really respect it. Especially the NA's. Don't get me started on that debate. Just all guesses really because to be honest I really don't care. I would take a 2nd Gen over a 3rd anyday of the week for reliabilty purposes and cost. It takes alot of money to make sure that Fd is running smoothly. Don't sweat it bro WE know we have great cars and that's all that matters. My 2 cents

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I have a 1st and 2nd gen and the third gen guys around hear just ignore the other 2 gens when we have our club meetings. Some of them are cool but for the most part they don't seem to realize that without the 1st and 2nd gens there would be no third gen.
It's funny because while the 1st and 2nd gen guys are talking tech the third gen guys are talking about what the shop did to their car. Most of them don't seem to know much about their cars except wich aftermarket parts they are going to have their shop install for them.
I dont think they realize that dollor for dollor either of the previous gens can be made faster than thiers. Your average third gen in good shape sells for around $14k. If I put that much in either one of my cars it would anialate even a heavily moded 3rd gen.
I don't mean to put down all 3rd gen owners because a good bit of them do know their ****. It just seems like most of the ones I come in contact with have their head up thier *** and have no interest in a car that made thier car what it is.
In my opinion The first two generations are superior in many ways to the third gen except in the looks department. They are beutiful cars.
Ok this is the end of my rant.

well. seeing as i have a GTU and a FD. i can tell you a few things first i LOVE MY GTU. it has never let me down. if anyone has seen my vids you will see how i drive my car daily. i have put 25k miles on it. on the other hand my FD is a money pit and has been broken for over a year(since ownership) should be out the shop in a month with 450rhwp. my gtu has been tons of fun and a great car to learn on. i can whip it around turns way faster than i'm supposed to and scare the life out of everyone with me or following me. cough*silver93tt*cough hehe. i will never put down a second gen owner since i AM ONE.

Unhappy

Yeah, I have noticed that too. I saw an FD tonight. He was in front of me at a stoplight. I blew the horn and waved. Pulled beside him after we left the light. He didn't even look over. I think that the third gen owners need to get over themselves and let me drive their cars. He, he, he.

Hahaha, i love that line, although ive never seen anyone say that, but to me, it seems that the 3rd gen owners know less about single turbo's cuz they always buy the complete kits instead of finding out what comes with them. Granted alot know what they are doing and talkin about...
But the best example i can think of, was at March's dyno day at Rampage. I rolled in there and there were about 10 fd's and a handful of fc's. I thought damn, I never see this many fd guys in one place. The fc guys where great to talk to, but i wasnt even gettin a glance from the fd owners, except for Josh "Silver7", very nice guy, but for the time that i was there, (before John D "Boostn7" ran), I put down more power than all the fd's except for Josh. And the best part was they came up with the funniest excuses, first of all my car was thrown together the night before to make it to the event and the ic piping was not good at all and it was not tuned. But they all kept sayin, well thats what a big single turbo will get you. I was running a blown t04b with a on-center exhaust housing. Anyone that was there could vouch that i was smokin like a pig.
But better yet, one guy actually walked by and said, "Yeah no wonder, he gutted his rear." I almost fell over laughing. I mean i know i picked up about 34rwhp with the carpet out, but i never thought they would figure it out:p .
Either way, i still barely get a look from most fd owners.

I've never had to deal with an FD owner in person before.

I imagine I'd get pretty pissed off too if they just sluffed me off or put down my car.

OK, I guess I'll defend them

Every 3rd gen owner I have seen on this site seem cool enough and like the 1st and 2nd gens. However the random 3rd gen owner seems to look down on 2nd gens. Hell a lot of them don't even know what a 2nd Gen RX-7 looks like when they see one.

However a TRUE RX-7 enthusiast should enjoy the RX-7 no matter what year. Hell I could give a rats *** what year an RX-7 is, it's all the same family. I don't see how someone could call themself an RX-7 or even a car enthusiast and look down upon the 1st and 2nd gens. All the 3rd gen owners I've seen here seem to appreciate the past 7s.

Basically what I'm saying, 3rd gen owners on this site seem to be real RX-7 enthusiasts, while most 3rd gen owners that are not on this site don't even know what 1st and 2nd gens are.

Yo,

To the original question posed by boosted, the answer is yes. There is a definite and tangible 3rd Gen Attitude. "If it's not an FD, it ain't ****." I've seen it at a Bay Area RX-7 meet I went to, and at Winter Wankel Wonderland 2. These experiences have led me to believe that all 3rd Gen owners are elitist snobs, and have no respect for 1st, 2nd Gen RX-7's, or any other car for that matter, other than the almighty FD.

This, of course, is a false conclusion on my part. Why? Well, I've just had my preconceptions of 3rd Gen owners recently re-adjusted. *grin* I met with r_ed_line53 (Ed) and Donovan the other weekend and they were /very/ cool. And guess what? They drive FD's. They had none of the "3rd Gen Attitude" I've been coming to expect from FD drivers. Ed has had a Turbo II longer than sin, and now has a wickedly loud 3rd Gen and Donovan drove an hour and half to hang with us 2nd Gen and pre-1st Gen guys. We played on the freeway, and we all had a blast.

So try and keep an open mind with those FD guys. There ARE some cool ones out there, you just have to dig to find 'em. *wink*

Oh, and don't think us 2nd Gen guys don't have an attitude as well. We've been dissed so many times, especially us NA guys, that we are a bit defensive and are quick to point out the other foibles of our turbocharged bretheren.

We should all just enjoy the fact that we drive unique sportscars, and leave the infighting to the other marques.

Well, I've had only great experiences with FD guys. All that I've met were in their early to mid 20's and I got along with them real well. But I really don't blame them. 1st gens? Most around here are beat to **** and driven by white trash who don't have a clue what they are driving. I drive by and give a thumbs up and they usually either flip me off or look at me confused. 2nd gens? Same thing most of the time. There's just so many of them, that no one knows or cares what they're driving. 3rd gen owners usually know what they've got and know they're hot ****. If I'd owned hondas my whole life and then got an FD, I'd be the cockiest sonofabitch ever. It's like the Ferrari of ricers. You're driving one of the sexiest cars ever made with an abundant aftermarket and you have not 1, but 2, that's right friends, 2, count 'em, 2 turbos!!!! I understand them totally, but I don't forgive them.

I'll admit, I posted that except I mentioned nothing about the 15's, so you might have read it elsewhere. I try to look at things in an honest way, and the way I see it... the people who are the MOST helpful to me regarding complex questions are the people who roam the single turbo and dyno/quarter mile sections (crispeed, rice racing, greg, boostn 7). I forget whether I mentioned gen's or not, but really I was referring to the sections where they post at. Greg, crispeed, and boostn 7 all have 9-10 second 2nd gens, and I'm not sure what Peter (Rice racing) drives .
Hahaha, i love that line, although ive never seen anyone say that, but to me, it seems that the 3rd gen owners know less about single turbo's cuz they always buy the complete kits instead of finding out what comes with them.
I totally agree with you! The ironic thing about those sections is that 98% of the people who frequent them have "kit cars" and just ask "how can I make X hp? what kit should I get? how much boost can I run?" This is dandy, if that is their preference, but IMO it's ignorant. They generally lack any clue to the mechanical engineering aspects of what makes a turbo setup work.

The main reason why I haven't been coming here as much is there have been a few newer members that are complete morons. I don't just mean un-knowledgable, but just annoying and ignorant kids. I just got sick of seeing the same moron posts over and over. Things have been seeming alot more normal latetly and I've been coming back alot! I love my T2!! You guys are totally awesome in this forum, I feel like I'm at home

To the original post: Yes, I've thought this about a percentage of 3rd gen owners for a long time, although I've never said anything. Most on this forum just love their beautiful cars alot, but give respect to 2nd gens.

Can you ever forgive me?

-Brian

I think thats the way it is in most of the rest of the world. If you look at an australia rotary site most of the fast cars are pre rx-7 and 1st gens. Not only that, but they are some of the cleanest cars you will ever see. Just checkout www.ajc13b.com This guy hangs out in the 1st gen forums and has probably the most beutiful 1st gen I've ever seen. Oh yeah, did I mention that it runs 10's . And yes its a street car.

But what can you expect from a country where NASCAR is the **** and most people don't know what Formula 1 is.

FD owners

I personally know only one FD owner. He is always willing to share his FC experiences. Now for the few I've meet in passing. One talked to me for about two minutes to ask where in town can he get some work done to his car. He wanted a new exhuast. When I told him I do my own work, (with plenty help from this forum) he said he wasn't looking to race, just wanted a good sound and walked out the store. The other FD I know about is owned by an Air Force pilot. Like most pilots, they don't give two cents about those who are not. He has two strikes against him. Just my two scents.

FD owners on this site seem cool though.

Haha, im not tryin to start a fc vs. fd war. I am actually helping my friend buy the parts he needs and build his fd for him. At one point, 3 of my friends were ready to buy fd's, i was totally for it, but one felt it was too much maintanace for him, the other chose a fc along with a daily driver, and the third is looking at a supra tt. And if thats what they want, thats what they are gonna get. I love the fd just as much as the other rotaries. Its just a percentage of those guys dont feel the same way. We can definately all get along, i love talking to anyone with a rotary, not just fc's since i own one. And if they dont like my car, thats cool, im ok with that, im not gonna buy an fd just cuz someone else likes them better. They can do what ever makes them happy. Cuz i sure know that im having a hell of a time with my fc.

ive noticed that the same thing. i have a cym fd and a modded t2, the fd gets more interest at an rx-7 meet than the t2 even though the t2 was a lot faster. actually thats the reason i have an fd, just to go to those meets.

cause they are scared to get beat. i saw two 3rd gens yeserday, a red one and a yellow r1. i was messing with the r1, cause my where the muffler bolts to the y-pipe, the bolts fell out and the exhaust is unhooked. i looked over at him, and i got on it a little, to let him hear the very loud and ugly *** sound the car makes now. even if i culd have raced him, i doubt he would have. you dont mess with the car that shoots flames...
