Generally speaking, when the P/S fluid is low, you get a groaning from the pump when turning. I my case, I have been getting a chattering noise when turning. This could be due to some other internal issues within the rack itself, but I am unsure.

Anyone??

My TII has never given me anything other than normal mechanical problems. The clutch went on it... stock clutch w/ 72k original miles trying to take the added power upgrades I have... didn't work out. I've got a 6-puck in there now. Other than that, only problem (my own dumbass fault), is the filler cap/neck on the thermostat housing leaks, because when I tightened it back up I stripped the threads in the housing . When I got my car I performed a ton of preventative maint. and it's never failed me. Runs cool, accelerates HARD, I love it

Thumbs up my 88 TII

is running pretty damn good......the idle is a little off, probably a vacuum leak somewhere!!! i bought her with 84,000 original (bone stock) miles. she never left me stuck i havent had to fix anything. all i have done is performance modifications--list on sig. she boost to 10 lbs. with excellent power, and still has stock motor/turbo with 108,000 miles now. i have started using syn. oil to protect her better.

the only mechanical problems would be the usual wiper speed stuck on slow, although my rear wiper works, hahaha!! what else, the roof was rusted to **** and doesnt work!! but i replaced that already with a black one, looks cool--people think its glass. the cd/tape player doesnt work.

all in all she is still running strong, im doing the breaks friday and installing a gtx turbo and getting a compression test done too!!! that will tell me the actuall condition of my baby!!!

my PS was leaking, so I just removed it, gives my arms a better workout. My engine likes it off I think.

My 88 T2 has 112k on the original engine, and it runs great. I've owned it for almost 2 years now, and have only had to make a couple of repairs.

Lets see...starter, water pump, fuel injectors, clutch, every hose on the car (fuel and water), leading AND trailing coils, front and rear eccentric shaft seals, fuel pump, O2 sensor, wiper switch, cruise control, dummy lights in center top of dash, and sunroof assembly. I think thats about it other than the regular maintence stuff.

... But its running great now!

Seriously though, these 2nd gen T2s are sports cars. They are all at least a decade old now. Most of us drive them hard, or bought them from someone who did. I really enjoy my T2, I just purchased it from someone who really didn't know how to take care of it.

The one thing I will say though is that I feel sorry for anyone who owns a T2 and does not work on it themself. I couldn't afford mine if I had to pay someone every time it needed a repair.

Later,
Doug

I dont have a T2, only an NA but from whats seen here all these problems are NOT turbo related. They are the same for both NA and Turbo 2.

And for that person that said they are maint. ******, wtf ?
Wow 15 yr old cars that need suspension, clutches, vacuum leaks, and electrical probs, blah blah blah...

What car doesnt need any of that at that age???

For the record...

My 89 TII with 89k miles is running fine. It's got a slightly rough idle when completely hot, but it just sounds like a big-cam V8, so I don't worry about it.

Now my brakes, well, that's a different story.
