Question Whoops! Got the wrong ECU... (Question)

Hey there... I'm a newbie to this forum, and a newbie to RX-7s too (Got my first performance car, a lovely 87 TII- not running ofcourse, but how else could I afford one ).

So anyways, to cut to the chase: I have been trying to get this thing running for a while now, and have finally gotten it to the point where it will idle , but is still an unstable idle (up and down RPMs, dying here and there). So I replaced the BAC, didnt help much, so I ordered an ECU off Ebay. Trouble is, I got the wrong one (N333 for an 88 TII) and mine is actually an N332 for the 87 TII... So my question is, would I still be able to use this one in my RX? And also, out of curiosity, what is the functional difference between the two?

Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

PS- I did a search, and found ECU posts, but nothing this specific regarding these models.

See posting by Vroomaster. I'm going through same thing. After reading what I found I'm going to my 7 savior Mainly's Land of Maz (Mesa, AZ) And I'm so looking forward to the AMEX bill. I just don't have the time/patience/equipment to do the job. Good luck

Red face

Am not thinking, also check the ECU forum, just scroll down and hit it and there is lots of good info. Just keep looking, you find what you need.

The 88 N333 Cpu drives high impedence injectors..
That was the main diffrence.. You have low impedance injectors in your car..

Be carefull, trying to drive low impedance injectors with the 333 cpu CAN hurt the cpu (if you tried driving high impedance injectors with the 332 cpu, your car would just run like crap)

Chris NG- The drives in ALL RX-7 ECU'S are HIGH IMPEDENCE!
The only difference is that they used a resistor block underneath/behind the pass side headlight to raise the resistance of the injectors from years 86 to 87 1/2, and used low inpedence injectors. From years 87 1/2 to 91, they got rid of the resistor block and just used high impedence injectors. NO difference in the ECUs.

The ECU should work fine- I can't think of anything different between those years other than a few trim details I think- so the CPU which controls some chassis electrical stuff may be different, but that has nothing to do with the ECU. (different unit).

If someone else confirms this- then go ahead. Otherwise, I'm 99% sure it's OK... It won't fry your engine or anythng. I had put a 350 ECU in my N/A, which is suppposed to be 351, and it ran perfectly fine while it was in. The only difference was that my fog lights didn't go on unless you turned them on (Canadaian standard requires daytime running lights from 1990 after... fog lights stay on ALL the time)
