Hmm, I dont think 235's fit on the stock fenders, I have 235's up front and 255's in the rear, but its a widebody conversion.

I had 235s up front on my Advans. They fit, but it was RUB O RAMA when the suspension was compressed heavily. The rims were 8s and the offset was +31.

I've seen 235s on a 17x8+35 with Tein coilovers and stock fenders. Forget the brand of tires but no rubbing and slightly less than a finger width of room from the shock compressed.

EDIT: stock fenders unrolled

I had a 235/40r17 on my old 17x8 +32mm offset wheels, no fender rolling, but I did have very stiff suspension, so I cant comment if it would have rubbed under hard compression on stock springs/struts.

Someone in our club accidently had put his 255's on cobra wheels in the front, he didnt notice it untill he got to the meet when we pointed it out. he did a full lock turn and they didnt rub, but under heavy cornering i'm sure they would have. looked like they cleared the fenders though.

235 on 17x9.5" +35 rims, ( very trapziod sidewalls ), using Cusco Camber plates at 2 deg. in house 2.5" coilover springs.. clears stock wheel lip fine. Full L to R steering lock.

I have 235/40R17 dunlop FM901's on Mustang GT 17x8's with a 30 offset and they fit great with no rubbing at all in the front

I think it depends on the brand of tires also. Some have more squarish sidewalls and some have more of a rounded sidewall. The FM901's I have seem to be roundish. Look up the specs of the tires that you want to use and compare them to some that have worked in the past. Some 235/40 tires are wider than others, so look up the manufactures specs.

Edit: You can't forget about suspension either. I'm running Eibachs with Tokicos, so I don't know how they would fit with a lower stance.

they fit my car like a glove, i did have to twist the coil spring and remount it in a different spot though to gain the necessary clearance but i can barely fit my pinky between the tire and the well, i did have to roll the fender a little as it was rubbing a tiny bit.
