cup holders are for suckers in my opinion. my rx7 is impractical - no cup holders, no back seat and 200km/tank! just the way i like it.

Yes, a pull out cupholder under the stereo will get in the way while shifting. I have a pull out from a '97....I think Nissan Altima. I fixed the shifting issue with a $30.00 miata short shifter off of ebay. There is a pic of the clearance in first gear here:
