Who here cars about "JDM"?

I am just curious. The whole this is a Japan Domestic market part thing is getting so "cool" now. I was wondering how many of us care about the cool factor. I will admit I am somewhat drawn to the " I have what you cant " thing, but who isnt, to a degree? Afterall we all like having unique cars, and having a unique aftermarket part is pretty neat. What are you guys's thoughts on this?

I do what I want to my car because I like it, not because it's a trend.

Blah, JDM is dumb. Are kids in Japan buying american market parts for their cars? Most likely not. I laugh though when I see how much $ people spend for a part that's just a little bit different from the one they have.

I have all JDM turbo 2 (N374) electronics/engine. I trade it in a heartbeat for some american T2 stuff. Everyone is like you got "JDM stuff COOL!" I'm like "Yeah. Its so cool no one here can even work on it!" Personally, I don't give a **** about JDM.

its always been cool to be a little different than everyone else. i got a JDM turbo timer. it sucks that i dont have installation instructions for it, but i actually originally got it because i wanted a cheap generic TT, and this one was 20 bucks. i didnt find out until later that it was some crazy japanese one.

You know what the funny thing is, no one outside america gives two hoots about an Impreza 2.5RS, in japan, and the country's japan ships cars to, its all WRX STi - The Real McCoy

I have heard of folks in Japan puttin American 240SX taillights and such of 180SXs in JApan. COuld be wrong though. As for 2nd gen specific, there really is no difference (barring the right hand drive thing) in the 2 cars esthitically. We get the same stuff they do.

Do a search for "JDM" on eBay and see how many responses you get!

Many sellers will put the JDM tag on an item just to get it seen, even if it has nothing to do with performance. That alone says how ate up some people are with this whole FAD.

I love the guy on Hi Rev Torturerz that replaced nearly all of the body panel/lights on an IS300 w/ JDM pieces. The headlights were different, the taillights looked the same (but hey, they're JDM!!!), and he replaced the decklid (which was also identical!) with the Jap version so he could use the Altezza emblem instead of IS300! Is it me or could this guy be an idiot?!?!

What was it Barnum said about a fool and his money?

The JDM Type R headlights look a million times better than the American ones...other than that, I don't care about JDM.

Many FC people in Japan put on the US spec rear sidemarkers on their FC's.

I bought my J-Spec motor simply because it was cheaper than a rebuild. It is warranteed, so I couldn't do any better in my situation. The BAC valve is different, there is no screw to adjust the idle in the J-Spec. Also, the smog pump is about the size of a beer can and there is no EGR valve.

The whole "JDM" craze is pretty lame IMO. People will spend SO MUCH MONEY on some stupid little part that is barely different because they think that it's somehow better than the American market part. In Stupid Street magazine there are countless "JDM" Hondas that have entire Japanese spec interiors swapped in--even the gauge cluster, which is in KPH and not MPH, which is really useful in the US!!! I've seen cars where they convert the whole thing to RHD; why the **** would you do that? How do you go through a drive-thru restaurant? i think the most pathetic thing I saw was a guy who had a "JDM" Civic who even imported the J-spec window glass! How stupid is that! but I guess that since it's from Japan, that automatically makes it better!!! must be bulletproof and add 50 hp!!! The only thing JDM that is worth importing are some of the motors which are more powerful or not available in the US.

All of this leads me to wonder . . . will the whole Honda/riceboy/JDM thing ever end? Or will it just go on forever?

Peace

The only thing that matters to me about a part is whether or not is does it's job, and whether or not I can get a part that does it better. I don't care who makes it.

You're a mailman?

If you want a RHD Subaru, they've been importing them for some years now for mailcarriers.

Well I've got one of the only real JDM cars here! Built, sold and driven in Japan, before being shipped to me!
