Who has a squeaky hatch?
Just wondering if I am the only one. My hatch squeaks whenenever I drive it squeaks and makes me paranoid it's something else. When the hatch is fully closed I can still push the hatch down a little more but it will just pop back up. All weather stripping is intact.
Any recommendations on how to fix the squeaking?

Dude, it's a pretty old car. I drove a friend home once and he was like "Oh you got a squeaking hatch!" I never noticed until he said that. Now I hear it when ever I drive. Whatever! It's part of being an older car. Just rev it high and you won't hear it as much

Mine opens when I pull the handle (rear wiper). I feel sorry for those who have blown hatch shocks and no rear wiper. If all the windows are closed and I slam my door the hatch will pop open higher.
The thing about the sound is that it makes it harder to diagnose other sounds I hear.

Some looseness or play in the hatch lock? Thats probably it because of the way its supposed to lock in and stay tight when its closed. But I could be wrong.

my gas hatch cable is snapped.. i'm assuming, as it doesn't work.. and i was wondering the easiest way to fix this. opening the hatch and going behind the side carpet to unlatch the gas hatch isn't THAT bad, but annoying anyway. thought I'd just ask here instead of making a new thread.

Fixed the squeaking sound. Here was my solution.
It was the latches but not that they had play in them. Rather the whole lock mechanisms were mounted too high. I just loosened them and lowered them slightly until no more squeak. Be careful to not lower them too much or you will have trouble closing your hatch and unlocking it.

when I pop my hatch it doesn't come all the way up but then again it doesn't rattle either. I think I would rather have to manually pull it up then to have a bad rattle. If there is one thing I can't stand, its a car that rattles. So far I only have one small one comming from the glove compartment and as soon as I track it down I'm fixing it

I just lubed the hinges and locking mechanism on mine and the squeeks went away. First time I started hearing it I thought something was broken back there. Scared the crap out of me.

Mine just developed a rattle when I go over bumps. Sounds like cracking glass everytime it happens. I'm assuming it's the movement of whatever is loose resonating through the glass. But it's quite loud. I'm thinking of trying to lower the locks a bit so it holds tighter. Anyone having similar problems...
And yes, old thread, I know.
