Question Who has better performance for a RX-7?

I have an idea what I want to do to my RX-7. I don't want to have a whole shitload of parts from just anywhere & everywhere but from a certain company. I was thinking of just puttin HKS parts or Apexi. I want to do that for performance wise & I want to get my money's worth on a good produce. I want to turbo my car & race it. What do you think?

sell the car and buy a T2... you will need a T2 for parts anyway.

and why one company??? buy the best parts on your budget from what ever company makes it. restricting yourself to one brand is not very thought through.

I agree with Icemark. Buying from one company is kinda like limiting yourself. Shop around. The companies you listed have real nice products but by looking a little harder you can find turbos that can out perform for only a fraction of the price which will allow you to buy other stuff for your car.

Here's my breakdown....
HKS is kind of like Sony. Pretty damned good stuff, but then again, you're PAYING for it too.
Apexi is probably the best bang for your buck of the three.
Greddy... I'm not a big Greddy fan, but I imagine it's somewhat like HKS. If you wanna theme it, go RacingBeat, cheap, high quality stuff to cover most of everything you'd wanna swap outta the car.

Thumbs up

Good job guys, thanks. You gave me a lot of things to think about. I was kind of saying the same thing to myself after I made this thread.

Personally,
i love the idea of having just parts from one company. Sure, it might be a little limiting, but its a cool concept. I would probably do Apexi. If you are gonna do speaker analogies, HKS is to sony PA equipment as Apexi is to Peavey equipment. Sony costs more, but my Peavey's kick the sony speakers' asses on most of the notes (and theyre cheaper).

From my experience the GReddy turbo kits are not quite an OEM fit. The HKS turbo kits are very close to an OEM fit and quality.

I have not yet dealt with others kits, but I am now sure that all of the available kits are as good...like Apexi, etc. The thing that you need to pay close attention to is the manifold. Spend the money on the BEST material (metal). It will last longer.

Don't know here... I'm not much of a brand name buying guy unless it's something I can't make myself (like S-AFC!)

BUT- if you stick to one company, and do a complete makeover using only that company, you may be able to reach a "sponsorship" agreement. If you are willing to have to cover your car with that companies stickers, they may give you a sizable reduction on their parts...

hehe, i would love my car to be covered with Apexi! A great way to get cheap parts if you're a racer is to go to mazda motor sports. If you have proof of your last 2 races (like slips with ur rank and such), they will give u a big discount.

Cool Bambam7, I never knew that. I think I'm going to just get a little bit from everyone. I don't think it's a big idea anymore.

I don't think any of those companys make more then 2-3 parts for rx7s.... so your car won't be very modded if you only use one

Well for our cars the Best people are Racing Beat IMO(Suspension and stuff).
The ones above are good for the turbo guys.
It is almost not worth doing a Turbo conversion unless you are very mechanically inclined.

That's why I am driving my 88 GTU(TII without the turbo) for now and once I get my bonus from work I will get a TII by the end of summer.

Good luck getting a sponser....

If I had to go with one company, it would be Apexi because they seem to cater to RX-7s more than HKS or Greddy.

HKS and GReddy stuff is so ridiculously stupidly overpriced. I laugh at anyone who bought any of it.
You are paying for the name, when RB, Mazdatrix, or RX7.com vastly outperforms them.
Ever looked at the price of HKS or GReddy mufflers???? They are nice stainless setups, but you can get an identical system, custom bent with stainless for less than half the price. Just plain stupid how much they charge.
If you want people to go "oooh" when then look at your bells and whistles, then buy the stuff. If you want people to look at your taillights instead, then invest in RB, and buy twice the horsepower for the money.
Nuff said.

out of those companies I'd choose Apexi...good quality parts w/o the cost of HKS/Greddy (in most cases). HKS fit and finish is always top notch though, and the parts do their work for longevity as well - thats what you pay for though - Apexi makes a lot of stuff for FC's...exhausts, intakes, coilovers, and I'm sure they have turbo kits and IC's in japan (Apexi USA might not stock them). Also all those universal parts like SAFC's and boost controllers, etc...
