I watched the keichi technique video and I've got to say, while those are all techniques to get the rear tires to break loose, which of those won't put you into a powerslide? I know that the braking drift and the "accele off" techniques wouldn't put you into a power slide but what about the side brake or the power oversteer? That seems like it would send you into a two wheel slide rather than a 4.

So in your opinions what is drifting and what is powersliding?

To drift or to powerslide, the question plagues me...

7spiritR, powerslide is just what you say, a 2 wheel drift caused by pure power on the rear. I don't like it to much because its more a powerful car that you need then skill (although some skill is involved).

e-brake drift offcourse is the same but then if you do not have enough power on the rear wheels. It is a good way to start learning how to control your car in a drift.

4 wheel drift for me is what real controll and real skill is about, for me that is pure drifting. Where putting your car into a drift and drifting it through a corner on the most effective way is the real skill.

But thats just my opinion and way of thinking, and pure theory. I still have plenty to learn before I can really talk about it and know about it. It's just opinion.

The real bottom line is, you gottah have fun. And drifting is fun, 2 wheel drifting, 4 wheel drifting, its all just alot of fun

Does Rally count

Late apex on dirt. Thats drift...

Rally... it's like NASCAR except without the pavement. Oh and the barriers are trees... Or cliffs. And we turn right too. Oh yeah and you have to bring your own lights... And they dont let you see the track first... But they give you a map... but you'll have to bring a friend to read it... but other than that it's just like NASCAR.

That can be summed up by the term "mAd SkIllS yO!"

Comparing rally with nascar?!?!?

Nascar, isn't that the sport where mega powerfull cars that can hardly turn race on a track that is made with banks and **** so you don't actually have to turn?

Sorry I am not a fan of Nascar, I find it fairly booring. Rally on the other hand for me is one of the greatest car sports there is, rally shows the ultimate control people can have over cars. You said it yourself, you don't know the course, you just get a map and thats it. You really have to have SKILL to finish without crashing your car seeing the speeds at which these guys drive, and you must be FREAKING MAD to even start in this sport as its dangerous as hell, no safeties what so ever, if you make a wrong turn at 100mph you are toast.

i know some drifters like opening doors and what not while they drift, but that doesnt really prove to me that they got the skill. just watching them actually execute the drift properly is what impresses me, not some 1 hand out the window open door type show off.

and about nascar, hah dont get me started, something about going in a circle for hours on end doesnt appeal to me. most ppl watch it to see a crash anyways, which is a shame, cause you should actually get excited and enjoy the race like you could with rallying, and grand touring. fun

After seeing a race and a few videos, I now have the greatest respect for rally drivers. They are awesome!

powersliding is when u start sliding in the turn, drifting is when it's initiated before the turn, u slide to get into the angle that you want to be at when u exit the turn...

DRIFT

Drifiting is good fun, but i got 350hp TII on a N/a Gearbox. I am still suprised it hasnt gone. I didnt think drifiting would be good fun. By da way the best way to drift is to use heel and toe. Thats if you dont have enough power. I get wheelspin in first and second and third. I dont have a choice. Oh yeh the whole car has n/a parts. Including n/a diff. Thats why i dont have any traction.

I drift, but my style is a lot more performance oriented and not quite so noticeable. Instead of using power to keep the car sideways I use the momentum of the car and balance the rotation from the front to the rear with throttle inputs.

BTW how many of you drifters are running with no PS? thas the way to do it!! much more feel and control!

and all of those of you scared to do it, if you know what your doing it wont hurt your car any worse than a day at the track. and once you get your *** beside you around a corner!!!........oh man you'll never wanna drive in a straight line again!!!!

Whatever technidue used, be very careful guys...I was a passenger in a clients 95 Corvette when he proved he didn't know how to drive and nearly killed me...

Have fun but be safe! Crashing is no fun and downright painful!

wow. After reading through this thread, I can see there are a lot of kids on here, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere near them when on the roads.

I autocross and rallycross. I haven't done either in my 7 yet. Drifting is fun, but calling yourself a "drifter", makes you sound like you're just trying to acheive some special status. The fact of the matter is, if you take a turn, and then have to dump the clutch to spin the wheels, you don't know how to drive.

Keep this stuff to the track.

I don't drive that fast unless I'm at the track.

drifting is just stupied thing ricers like to do, its extreamly hard on your camber setting wheels and cv joints. no one who likes their car should do this. Thies are grip cars not drifters.

Drifting is actually the fastest way to negotiate a turn. But, I'm not refering to the overly flagrant, counter-steer heavy, style of drifting that they're talking about in this thread. Most people don't realize this because it takes an incredible amount of skill to do with any sort of consistency, or they do it and they just don't realize it.

I also disagree in that it's "just stupied thing ricers like to do". Personally, I'd like to learn how to drive like that. I'm the road course type who wants to go fast, but it would be to my advantage to feel comfortable in a full drift and have some idea of how to catch it and correct the situation before it turns into a complete loss of control.

kinda... usually ricers are referred to like honda civic and tegs... most of them fall under that category.. so umm... rear wheel is needed for drifting... so yes "drifting is just stupied thing ricers like to do"

I can, but there is no reason to make somthing harder than it needs to be. Power stearing is really quite useful. With no PS, you tend to "Fight with the car." There is no fighting with the car when you have PS.
