Does anyone know if high flow cats were put into that mazdatrix true dual what the effect would be, I have high flow cat after my RB headers and it works great before that i had streight pipes and the exaust always stunk. I've always loved the true dual but I would want to modify with high flow cats. Would they fit? Would it work?

no

no , no , and more no. Putting cats on your duall defeats the purpose. WHY, you stilll wont pass smog anyway because of the visual test. The heads are illeagal but if you live somewere were thier not them why put cats. Becasue the smelll. Dont do it. Hey when it comes time to smog, do what ill do. Bolt off the headers and pipes, then bolt on your old manifold and cat. It took me 10 minites to bolt my manifold on last time i took it off. no less , more like 8. if your worried about sound, Get some really long streaight through muffs. You wont be bothered. just dont rev it next to a cop.

Ya mazdaspeed? You have that setup, would you agree with the 28% increase? Or anyone else with the setup? Thanks.

Thumbs up I Just uploaded Dyno Pics!!!

In the mazdatrix Catalog, they have a pic of their Dyno Chart, which was done on a 1987 N/A.

I just uploaded the pics to my site.

Go here to see them.

Can anyone with true-dual exhaust give their opinions about the 28% increase? Thanks.

That wasn't a Dyno sheet...that looked just like a graph they made. I also would like to see a REAL dyno sheet showing before and after results.

Ya I think we all would like to see a dyno sheet too. Maybe if we tell Mazdatrix on here he can try to get us one.

Ok, since everybody has been asking for my opinion, here it is.

I had gutted cats before I put on the headers/true dual. I had a muffler shop do it for me. The gains were noticable, but not the kick in the face I would expect from 28% more power.

It is really hard to judge the gains, because I was having lots of problems with the top end of my car, which I have since fixed. My car felt like it was hitting a brick wall at 6K rpm. This was later attirbuted to leaning out severely and running too low of an octane gas. I have my timing advanced, and with the stock manifold, 87 octane ran fine. With the headers/exhaust, it did not. I put TII secondaries as well as a TII fuel pump in my car, and while it helped, my car still wasnt revving as high as it should. I did that before I switched to higher octane gas. My car was very quick, but I dont think the headers/exhaust perform as advertised.

Someone said that single exhaust makes more power than true dual. Not true at all, especially for non-turbos. Single turbos use a single exhaust for simplicity, but isnt it true that divided turbo manifolds make more power than undivided? Back to non-turbos, single exhaust has the most bottom end, and is the quietest. The Long primary system for FB's, which has dual pipes that converge just before the muffler has less low end than a single header/exhaust, but more low end than a true dual. It has more top end, hence peak power, than the single, but not as much as the true dual. The true dual makes the most peak hp, but it is much louder than either of the above exhausts. it also has the least bottom end. Its all about exhaust tuning. Both of the exhausts that converge sometime use the pulse from one pipe to crate a vacuum in the other, which makes the exhaust flow much better at lower RPM's. But this creates turbulence as the RPM's go up, due to the exhaust pulses interfering with each other. Tuning the exhaust is simply balancing how much top end you want to gain at the expense of how much bottom end youre willing to lose. True dual has no interference from exhaust pulses, so it flows much better at high rpm's.
