white smoke... check my mods

i'm not sure if the white smoke is normal for a header, pre-silencer and mufflers (2.5" all the way). it only happens when i take off after warming up my engine. it only last for half a mile and the smoke will go away.

if this is not normal, what could be wrong?

I don't know what it smells like because it only happens when I take off. I don't see any smoke when it is idle.

if you start it cold and rev it to 4-5k rpm does it start to smoke? if it does then your rotor oil seals are dying. if it does not then you have another problem

I haven't tried that. Well, let me do that right now since I haven't started the car since last night. So, should I rev it right after I start the car?

If it is white smoke I would keep an eye on the coolant level also.

NO!

Check the color and level of your coolant. Also, after you start the car, open the rad cap and check for bubbles. Get back to us once you've done that.

How many miles on the motor? History...has it ever overheated?

Is it cold or pretty damp where you live right now?

I'm sure you guys have seen cars puffing out white "smoke" when it's cold out and the car has just been started.

If the weather is nice and balmy...keep an eye on your coolant.

I just started my car, warmed it up a little bit, rev to 4-5K and no smoke. Checked the coolant and its ok. Opened the rad cap and no bubbles.

Your oil seals in the motor are starting to go - it's really common.

It won't hurt to drive the car like that, just make sure you keep the oil topped off.

You can also let the car sit and warm up for about 30 seconds in the morning and that will reduce the smoke a bit. If you disable the 3000 RPM startup that will help a bit too.

The good thing is every motor that I've built that had bad oil seals turned out to be CHAMPS - really nice and tight. That extra oil keeps everything nice and shiny in the motor .

There's really not a good treatment you can do to the oil to keep it from smoking - most motors I've seen were MISSING the rubber oil seals - that had completely disintegrated. When something isn't there, a magic chemical won't grow it back.

also are you running synthetic or mineral oil??
if you're running synthetic thry switching to mineral oil that will be thicker and you will lose less oil IF your seals are truely bad. by the way how was the meet on fri.??

well if it didn't smoke when you revved it cold then it could just be condensation. i wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse.

The cat will absorb a lot of the oil smoke from bad oil seals - you just won't see it. That's why you're seeing it moreso with the new presilencer.

ok would a compression test help me to accept that my oil seals are starting to go?

so if this is the case, how much more life does my engine has?

a compression test will not show bad oil seals. the compression test will only show how much compression the engine has right that second. it can have bad coolant seals and bad oil seals and still have good compression.

down pipe or headers? anyway, that has been installed over a year ago but the pre-silencer has only been about a month ago. But I've only ran my car about 5 times this month.
