white slimey stuff under oil cap?
a couple of friends of mine are looking to pick up a 2nd gen for a project rally car. they found one for a good deal, but noticed there was white slimy stuff under the oil cap and it looked like the oil hadnt been changed in a while. any idea what this could be?

Mine had the same slimy stuff but it was caused by the rotor housing being cracked and letting coolant leak into the oilpan. The engine has good compression but is totally unusable.

it's condensation from not driving the car for 30 mins+ or so at a time. driving for under 15-20 mins is worse for the engine and causes the condensation.

How good of a deal
How good of a deal? I would sell mine, ask your pal DJChunter about mine, he rode in it. He was surprised at what a beast she was. Thats probally due to the new motor though.

Hey, I just registered here... but I am one of the people 87T2 was referring to.
The car has sat for a while so from what you guys say it is hopefully just from condensation. We will be able to pick this car up for about $400 so it's a really good deal. We want a project car to work on that we plan on setting up to some SCCA ClubRally races and such. We will be keeping it rather stock as performance goes because we want to stay in the Production Class.
In case anyone was curious, it needs a new brake master cylinder, u-joint, and intake. Those are the only more "major" things that we will be replacing as soon as we get it.
We will probably pick it up this weekend, thanks a lot for the help guys.

Sounds like coolent in the oil to me
I never had it happen on my 7's but in two other hondas I had, it was the head gasket leaking that caused the problem. It was always the same. White gunky stuff on the inside of the oil filler cap and water droplets on the dipstick. Maybe 7's are different, I know there's no head gasket, but a cracked block could exhibit the same signs. I'd check the dipstick to see if you see any water drops mixed in with the oil.

Thats oil snot from a Rex cold virus. Typical on Rex's that aren't exercised regularly, fed well, or given proper attention.

Change oil and filter, run it for like 20 minutes (go around the block or something), check the oil. If everything is ok the oil will look OK. If something went bad you will have the worse tasting Milk Chocolate in your oil pan.
