white foam built up in my oil filler neck

Well, whenever I take the cap off of my oil filler neck there is always foamy white water/oil biult up on the very top of the neck the cap, and the top of the dip stick. And I had some reatard come tell me that it was a bad water jacket, and I know that is not it, it doesn't ever get low on antifreeze. Does anyone have this happen to there car to, and if so do you know what causes it, I am thinking that it is caused by starting it up and shutting it off when it is still cold, but were is all that water coming from?

did you cap off the two line on the filler neck? You proly need a catch can if you did.

you don't really need a catch can just a vaccum source venting the crank case, but a catch can is a good idea, there should be a nipple on the oil filler neck if you removed the vaccum rack and cap this off that is what is cause it

Right now my intake is still apart because I don't have any fuel line, and no one wants to go to the parts store right now, so it was doing this with the spiders nest in. Were would I install a catch can? I have never really heard to much about that.

Well you attatch it to the Oil Filler neck but since you still have the purge valve on there I don't see why you have that stuff in there

Foam can be normal in the top of the filler neck..if the car doenst get driven a ton...its just condensation.

As long as your not getting and white smoke out the exhaust or gizers coming out of your water neck, combustion gasses in coolant..your fine.

It does give me some smoke when I **** if off, but it hasn't done it in a while. I think the fuel cut switch helped it.

Its because of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation System. Series 4 N/A's have 1 nipple near the base of the oil filler neck. When you removed the vacuum stystem, you probably capped it off. This needs to be open to allow ventilation to the case. If you leave it open to the atmosphere, you will leak out small amounts of oil. Its not a noticable amount, but over time it will make a mess of things. One possibility to fix this is run a catch can between this nipple and one on the intake. Jaz makes one you can get from JEG's http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...63&prmenbr=361

The hole is not caped off and the charcoal canister is still in place because I don't have a ventilated gas cap, as soon as I buy one of those it will be gone.

The charcoal canister does not run to that nipple. If you removed the vacuum rack, remove the charcoal canister, it is not doing anything for you.

Not directly, it goes through the vacuum rack first. And if he removed the rack and doesn't know what this line is, I can confidently say he didn't reroute the line there. So the charcoal canister is not connected to it.

dude.

EDIT - Ah, maybe on N/A's it does go directly to the nipple. That would make sense then.

Arexseven I know what I am saying the line goes through a hard metal line on the firewall to a rubber hose that connects to the filler neck.

Yes it does, it runs along the fire wall, and then goes to the nipple that is inbetween the two rotor houseings at the bottom of the filler neck. And the other line from the charcoal canister also runs along the fire wall, but I don't remember exactly were it goes, maybe it is different on an S5.

That one should run back toward the gas tank.

I was wondering that too (same deal in the first gens) Once my filler neck was uncorked, everything was cool, but now my engine bay is dirty!! Are there any alternatives to that 50 dollar breather? If not, I will most probably get that. Looks pretty sharp.

Couldn't the charcoal canister serve as a catch can if you routed it differently?

no it has a hole in the bottom

That one should run back toward the gas tank.
they both run alone the firewall.... small one goes to the tank. big one splices between the TID and oil filler neck.

the white stuff and water is from lack of venting the oil filler neck. or if you only drive 5-10 mins at a time.. go for an hour drive and heat the engine up good and see what happens.
