Where'd you get your FC
Where'd you get your FC
Everyone talks about finding their FC with 35K miles for only $2200 - so my question is where are you finding these? I've been hunting what other people want for their Turbo II and have not seen a single one with low miles and under 7 grand. So where has everyone found their car?
You have to look. It might be some guy down the street who does not get in to the rotary mania or the unfortunate passing of someone and the estate has no clue.
Just scan the for sale sections of your local paper. It might take 6 months.
Also keep this in mind, many of the so called deals might not be as real as they seem . . . I know of two for sure where the buyer came to this board and understated the purchase price.

I wasn't even planning on buying a 2nd gen rx-7, nor did i know what one looked like. I had mostly been interested in buying a prelude or newer model car. When I was looking in the paper, I saw an rx-7 TII, didn't say what year, so I went on the internet and checked it out. I saw some pics and determined that I liked it a lot
. I went and checked it out, and it was an 89' TII with need of some paint, but a rebuilt engine 9k miles ago. The original offer was $3800 cause he really needed to sell it, for parts for his newer project, his camaro. We said that we would need a new paintjob, so we talked him down to $3200, then we got the car checked out, but the only problem was a rear axle bearing thing that would cost a few hundred, so we talked him down to $2800. Turned out the guy just really needed to sell it, so we kept talking him down. Now I have a nice, newly painted red 89' Turbo II with a rebuild 9k miles ago, and it was pretty damn cheap. I guess most of the people just got lucky, or the seller didn't know where to look to get the right value of the car, and just assumed that since it was an 80's model car that it was worth a lot less.

I bought mine from my boss in the Navy for $100. She had mentioned her husband had an RX-7 and that they were going to give it to charity... I asked what year it was and if it was turbo... Turned out to be an '87 T2 with a perfect body and strong motor... They gave it to me for what their tax savings would have been had they given it charity.

I found mine on www.autotrader.com for $5000
Way overpriced but claimed it was in "outstanding shape" and it was exactly what I was looking for and close by
I wound up replacing or fixing immediately:
A/C compressor, drier and converting to 134A
4 Tires
Rear brake pads
Radiator & thermostat, caps and hoses
Pinned cooling fan (bad clutch)
Stereo (factory was shot, now have awesome sound with Sirius sat radio)
Front wheel bearings
Cracked dash pieces
Wiper switch
Air pump bracket
Belts
Oil cooler lines
Shifter bushings
Plugs & wires
Still love it but it was not any deal for sure.

i think a good way to go is to look for cars that have problems that are pretty easily fixable but that drive down the price of the car.
i found my '91 n/a through recycler.com - owner lived in palmdale, bought the car spur of the moment, wife hated it, he had to sell it. there was a big dent on the rear fender and it really needed(/s) a new paint job. however, the interior was impeccable, all electric things worked, and the engine was the cleanest-running one i've ever seen. (not like i've seen that many). since i have friends at a body shop, i was able to take care of the dent that took the car's price down $2000 from blue book - for $600.

Got my first 91 NA from my buddy who lived a few miles from me. Sold that to a member on the forum in milpitas and bought my 89TII from a member on the forum a couple miles from my house. I guess I have good luck with not having to go very far.
My '88 NA was owned by an older lady the majority of its life until it was sold a year or two to a guy (this guy owned a BMW Z3 and an older Lotus Esprit.) I guess the FC was his daily driver since he racked up more miles. He lost his job, so I bought the car from his friend for $2700 with 70K original miles in exceptionally pristine condition.
Got my beatup '87 Turbo II from a fellow forum member (turns out my dad does taxes for his dad too.) Small world eh? So now, I'm stuck restoring this car to "mint" condition. Its going to be a while...

Found my first, 91 NA, ar Carmax in Naperville IL. Just went by to look at some cars, and was actually looking at a 92 Supra. The quickness and lightweight of the RX-7 sold me. The second, 90 GXL, I got from Garfinkle 2 miles from my house.
I had been admiring a co-worker's girlfriend's car every time she came to pick him up for lunch- it was a black 88 vert- and man was it clean! I immediately told the guy if she ever wanted to sell it to call me first. Forgot about it, they broke up, then six months later she came in just because she remembered me drooling all over the car. Said she wanted a new Sebring vert (she's in her mid fifties) for the extra room and comfort. Picked it up for 3 grand, and EVERYTHING worked, she had regular maint. records on it. Been blissfully happy ever since. Now it's got about 133k miles, and the only thing I have had to do is replace the radiator. (stupid plastic garbage!)
I bought mine from my friend for $500, the car was all stock when I bought it ,it just need to replace the starter, and the car had 72k miles on it (now 98k miles, only gains 26k miles in 6 years)
I found mine on here. I had to fly out to Ohio to pick it up, then drive it back to Boston.
But 50,000 miles on the chassis, and 6,000 miles on new engine...all for less than $4,000. I just had to replace the logicon and the mufflers, and everything is running well right now.

Got mine from an inpound lot. Only paid $650 and runs like a charm. Had 156k when I got her.. she has about 158k now. Looked every where for a GTU or TurboII. And I am glad I found this one. I just had to CLEAN her up.. man what that **** dirty.
I got mine from a friend who rents houses... one of his tenents needed to make rent, had an 86 GXL, 206k on it, needed new clutch, new brakes, paint, and the interior was tore to hell... Bought the car for $200... i drove it around for ~6 months while i worked on my friggin' eclipses' clutch nightmare... all i added was clutch and brakes..
Now i'm in the middle of rebuilding the engine, not because it needed it, it was still pulling strong, I just want to know everything that happens to the car from ths point on.. . my goals for it: finish rebuilding engine, get new ball joints, wheel bearings, drive shaft... then do the exterior (just needs some paint and a few dents)... then the interior, custom fibreglass, baby! Tons of fun, so far for under 600, after new tires

My friend found it listed on EBay. It was about 25 minutes from me, so I drove there with my friend to check it out, gave the guy a $200 deposit and had the car less than a week later. $3500 for a '91 NA 54600 miles. w00t!
I had been looking at a '91 Black TII w/80,000 miles parked in a neighbor's driveway for the last 2 years.
Made them an offer last June. Another in Sept.
KBB private party value minus the cost of broken stuff came to ~2500. They accepted.
I'm now 33 hours & ~$500 into it's restoration.
