Where is the stock jack stored?

I understand this is a very noob question, but I suspect my newly purchased S5 N/A is missing its stock jack and would like to be sure...

Open rear hatch.
On your left (the driver's side) in the rear corner/side- right behind the wheel well, is where the jack is stored.

If you lift the driver's side rearmost corner of the carpeting, you should see a little masonite panel that lifts out, covering the jack.

+1

it very well could be missing... but it is ( as stated)... stored on the flat of the rear compartment near the power antenna... the jack crank handle is stored by the spare tire at the rear of the compartment

Just pull the carpet back from the driver side, and you'll see plastic tabs. Twist them and look under the piece of cardboard.

Interesting that your 10AE has a 5-lug aluminum wheel for the compact spare. I'm pretty sure Mazda totally did away with this expensive weight-saver somewhere along the line. No S5s had them, and my late build date (8/88) '88 GTU doesn't have one either. I think all the S4 4-lug cars had an aluminum wheel spare. Can't say I've ever seen a 5-lug one.

Thanks mazdaverx713b! It's beyond doubt that the stock jack is missing in my S5.

Very interesting. As I noted above, both my '88 GTU and my '90 GTU had the OEM steel spare. Although I was the second owner of both, I got them both when they were practically new and neither spare looked like it had ever been used. I seem to remember reading one of those "S4 vs. S5" threads years ago in which somebody claimed that Mazda stopped using the aluminum spares at the same time they stopped using the aluminum jacks, and that this was somebody's evidence of the cost-cutting that Mazda allegedly did when the S5s came out. I thought it was odd that my '88 GTU has the aluminum jack but the steel spare. My '90 GTU had the steel (blue painted) jack and the steel spare. Maybe this was more random than I originally guessed, or maybe only the premium models (Convertible and Turbo) got the aluminum stuff... who knows? Now I want an aluminum spare!

I may have a spare aluminum jack

My S5 vert came with steel spare and steel jack. Now it has aluminum spare and aluminum jack. The upgrade reduced about 25-30# off the Vert's lardass.

Aluminum Jacks are frequently available on the FS section.

BTW, I think I have extra Aluminum Jack and jack handle. I will check, but it can't be till Friday.

Ticonderoga, if you are looking for a jack and want Aluminum, let me know via PM.
