Where to start on stock turbo upgrade/replacement?

Hey guys, I have a TII with oem stock turbo. I notice what looks like a small oil leak coming from it yesterday. Anyway, I would like to change it eventually to something better, but have no clue as to how, what, where. I am mechanically inclined, so that is not an issue. My car is a show car, not a performance car, but I am slowly upgrading as necessary to replace old/worn components and giving it a fresh look with descent products such as HKS intale, Tanabe springs, ect. I want to clean up that side of the negine as well. My budget is not poor, still have a house and 3 kids to take care of, so there is a ceiling.

Let me ask it in a better way. What is the direct aftermarket replacement for the oem turbo?

You can get a BNR hybrid (comes in 4 stages) or you can build a hybrid yourself, like I am doing.

The only 'direct replacements' are made by Greddy and HKS, they are expensive, and come with new manifolds and the necessary supporting items.

a BNR Turbo is a great start. since it requires no modification and is a bolt on to stock parts like your mani and dp. there are however other things that you NEED to adress when you are going to modify turbo to increase your boost levels. Assuming you are going to go with a BNR (most user friendly) you will also going to have upgrade fuel system and mos important a way to control you engine. i would highly recommend you going with a BNR+Rtec (digital tuning) chip. it would be a good start but really it would be good to know what power levels you are looking for and boost levels and supporting engine mods. there is a little more to it then just thowing in a big *** turbo.
