Where should I start?

Hi guys I'm new to the forums and I just bought a 1987 TII well maintained car from an original owner. I was wondering where should I start if i want to mod the car to make it faster. The only mods in the car right now are an HKS short ram intake and a HKS old school turbo timer(1992). I checked all fluids and the car runs great, no smoke no hard starts. I wanted to smog the car first and i was wondering if i would pass with the only mod being the intake? Any input/ideas would be great, thanks.

Well, I'd START in the FAQ and the Archives.

But seriously, there's a lot of good stuff there. Rotaries respond particularly well to exhaust modifications, intake will help some, bigger turbo, porting if you feel like taking the engine apart. New pistons and/or cams won't make you go any faster though.
