where should the air breather go?

am putting my cone filter on and I was thinking... should I put the air breather filter directly on the metal part itself or should i connect it to the end of the hose?

is it bad if it gets hot/dirty engine air?

would it be better if it was in the airbox, on the end of the stock tube?

I take it you are talking about a small breather filter to act as the new filtration for your air pump inlet pipe...

Its completely up to you. I usually put it on directly onto the air pump just to eliminate clutter and it gives me an easy metal pipe to clamp onto without using an adapter.

The air pump breather filter does not need to go into your "cold air" box. Cold air boxes are for a dense intake charge for better power... we don't really care how dense the air pump charge is.

No, as long as you leave the air pump in place, the auxiliary ports and VDI will function as they are intended.
