Where are the relays for the stock e-fan located?

I have one of the stock auxiliary e-fans that I just installed on my car, and I need some help getting it running.

Through searching and looking at the wiring diagrams and FSM, I have found that there are several components to the e-fan system. There is the fan itself (which I have), the thermoswitch sensor (located in the thermostat housing), the fan relay near the front bumper) and the fan control unit. That is the part I can't find. There is also a mystery fan sub-relay that is mentioned in the wiring diagram, but is not named in the diagram in the FSM. Where is this?

Also, I accidentally got a s5 thermostat instead of an s4. Can I just use this without the rubber gasket it comes with, or so I just need to get an s4 thermostat?

Thanks in advance.

You go to the free, online 88 Wiring diagrams. You look at the page 50-38. Each item in the system has a reference designator. Like the Fan Control Unit has F-07 next to it in the diagram. Then you go to the next page that shows where F-07 is located in the car.

It's located in the passengers foot well way up and to the right. That unit has MOTOR FAIL written on it FYI. A MItsubishi item if memory serves.

Do likewise for the other items.

In case your thinking your leg is being pulled, read this, one of many threads I've asked questions on: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ht=engine+fail

There's a PICURE of it on that thread.

Sorry, I just didn't read it all. I had already found the wiring diagram, I just didn't bother to go to the next page to find it it had the locations. Thanks for the quick reply.

Any insight on the thermostat? It seems to be working just fine, but I am about to have to replace the water pump housing, so if I need to get a new thermostat I'd like to do it now.

Thanks

Weird, I have the 88 wiring diagram, but it is a different picture from that one. I'm glad you posted that, because I had one of the relays confused based on the diagram I was looking at. It appears I already have the fan sub-relay for some reason (I guess because its on the same bracket as the a/c relay?) but not the main relay.

Hmmmm. I did what your doing, installed a aux fan on a 87non turbo that came without the aux fan. It works but I have a very fuzzy memory on what I did to make it work. The connector was there for the fan and I have no memory of doing anything else other than the thermo switch on the thermostat housing. And very little of what I did there.

The fan control unit was near/next to the knock sensor on a Turbo car.

From the diagram, it looks like if the car has no airconditoning, then the sub relay is not needed.

You need the Electrical Fan Relay (F-75). It looks like the water temperature switch puts a gnd on its(F-75) coil and pulls it in and that puts a gnd on the fan motor itself, thru the water temperature switch.

Seems the Fan Control Unit plays little part if your depending on the water temp switch to turn the fan on at 209*.

So you need the Electrical Fan Relay and the water temp switch, but not the Fan Control Unit nor the sub relay. The sub relays elect plug does need the G/R jumpered to the G/L wire of course. It might already be that way. No way to tell from here.
