Where to mount sender unit for mechanical water temp gaige?
Ok i just picked up new water temp gauge for free... a mechanical... cheap no name one. But im putting in my electric fan and want to keep a closer eye on my temp through out the install. so anyway.. i need to know where to put the little probe thing.. i dont want to tap into the block or any of that.. and dont want to do anything too perminant.. anyone have any good ideas???
thanks
thanks
You could drill and tap the hole on top of the thermostat housing. Unless you have an automatic. I think they came with the housing already tapped for a sensor.
Also, there are different threads for such things. There are 'NPT' specs (common to non-metric American cars) and metric specs, British specs, but you will probably be concerned with what the threads are on your sending unit and what is on the housing. There are adaptors available.
www.mcmaster.com has a fine selection of everything. Plus they have technical pages to explain this stuff.

Thanks...... I did a more therul (sp) search and found some interesting ideas.. like ways to mount them in hoses and such...... i guess ill try that
I dont have AC and PS and i have mine on the front housing just below one of the big studs. You will see a big set screw. I bought a AUtometer sender and it fit perfectly on that location. I heard it will not give an accurate reading though like 5 degress off or something.
I have an Omori one and there would be an easy way to do it like mine. Just get a steel tube, or thick aluminum, that will fit inside the upper rad hose. Make it as long as you want, and then tap the sensor into it
Then all you have to do it cut up the rad hose. Nothing permanent. You can see the yellow thing in my old pictures of my engine bay, www.rx7turbo.com
