Where to mount my CD player!?

Can anyone suggest a place to mount my cd player?
Reason is because i've had so many break-ins it's not funny anymore. Four in about half a year, that's 4 head units, 4 subs (2 x 2), 4 amps, and a hole lot of other stuff. The last break in they took the stereo surround, so no use putting the new stero back in there!

I was planning to pull out the glove box and put it in there. Another option is to bolt it onto the body, under the carpet in the boot. Underneath the seat is an ok idea too, but pretty hard to point the remote down there!

I would love to hear what you guys have to say!

btw, before anyone flames me, i have a few things to say:

1. I have three alarm units, replaced twice because they were ****.
2. I park in safe places, and hardly take my 7 out. I once got robbed in my back yard!
3. i don't go down the main street pumping my system up, amps and subs are for sound quality.

Sounds like you have my luck.

I go for the "I just got robbed" look with a few wiring harnesses dangling out of were a radio should be.

Have you considered installing the deck further back and then making a blank face from some plastic to cover the entire radio area? Attatch with velco.

LoL
yeah i got that look!
stripped the carpet from the boot
wires, profec and com port for microtech sitting out where the stereo USED to be. Ricers look at my car and they're like "**** this guy must be fast," thing is they're right ^_^

That's a good idea, i'll measure it all out tomorrow!

anyone else?

Well, you've mentioned the glove box. I think that's a good place. It's lockable, it hides it's contents and you could mount a remote IR receiver somewhere to so you could still use the remote while the glove box door is closed.

If yer into mp3s consider getting one of the players with a hard drive (20 gigs is like $350 canadian) and FM tuner, then plug it into an amp (wired up under the seat), with a little mount where the old stereo was (before it got stolen!). Then you'll have a rockin system with 20000 minutes of stored music that you can take with ya and use at the gym and ****.

My buddy has a radio in one of his strage bins and has a digital wireless remote. Kick ***. But invest in an alarm is a lot better then investing in a radio

First off, where the hell do you live? I used to have a camaro(yes I know) and I had 2 10s sitting on the back right up against the hatch almost, had an amp sitting between the rear seats and a cd player and played my **** as loud as I wanted. No one ever touched my ****. Never. No alarm, nothing. You could see everything I had in plain view and no one even tried to break in. I think people don't like you or some ****.

I have a few solutions:

Tint your windows dark enough so people cant see in the hatch.

AND/OR

Get a 6-disc changer and mount it hidden in back or in the storage bin.

If you want things really hidden put the amp where the spare is or in that location.

I like the idea of mounting your deck farther back and making a detachable plastic cover or some kind of door.

Hope that helps.

mmm and as for the glove box, I had mounted a frequency scanner, stereo, and dsp brain their sometime back. I believe there is a ignition switched wire that runs behind it aswell. Just relay off of it. I had to do some surgery work to the glove box though because it wasn't quite long enough (deep) for the 5 disk indash cd changer. It turned out working quite well. I mounted a remote IR where the ashtray is (seeing how i dont smoke.) So all I have to do is pop open the ashtray and have remote access. Its kinda hard to tell sometimes what im doing with the stereo w/o having the glove box open though (knowing what cd im on, ect.) Overall though, having an empty stereo dash is pretty cool. I covered mine up with a piece of plastic and then sprayed the entire surround + plastic cover /w rubber underbody paint stuff. The finish product makes it hard to tell there was ever a radio there (other than it looks like thats where a good place for it would be.) I figure it would be a good place to mount some gauges there too if I ever need. Goodluck!

Sorry I wanted to add something:

If you get a 6-disc changer then get some crappy deck without a CD player so people wont look twice at it and move on. I think "stealers" look at our cars and they look halfway exotic, so they assume there is something of value in there.

Glove box is a great idea. You could go with a real hot setup and get some custom shop to drop your headunit in the stock location, and then get a shrowd to place over it when you park it that will cover it up or something. The glove box is the best way to go though. I'm all about customizing stereo stuff, and you could do some sick stuff with the glove box. You could drop a cd changer in there, and have the head unit be just a receiver/tape player. doesn't look flashy, but they can't see the changer. The mp3 player (Kenwood "keg") is a great idea too. You could drop that in a bin. Depends how much money you want to spend.

Thank goodness I live in Ohio.. I'd get jacked anywhere else.. Infact, someone did try to break into my car once, back last summer/fall. fucked up my passanger door handle assembly. Tried to pry the whole thing out. Failed miserably. Amateur! Fucked up my lock, but the handle still works! I only had my stock alarm, so after that I got the best alarm Best Buy had to offer.. Much better...

my other dream car, the one a little tougher to afford, and almost or more rare than the rx7 (at least in sd) is a subaru svx. Very nice, and its got the door that covers up the stereo units

I put my 6-disc in the glove compartment. Had to cut most of the back out of it but I'm happy with it. I can change magazine trays while I'm driving without going off the road.

No one has so much as farted on my 7 (other than me.)

ok guys thanks for the feed back
it's going in the glove compartment at the moment
it's not very secure, but will remain out of the way, and will be locked!

The idea of mp3s was already taken into concideration, i bought a pioneer mp3 player ^_^

And for everyone's information i live in Australia! Only one break-in has happened in my 7, 2 in my daliy driver (slightly done up) and one in my other daily driver (just a HU) and one attempted on my bike!

Don't put one In. I've been driving around In my 7 for 4 yrs with zero Stereo and components. Trust me, you get used to It. Doing this makes way for more room for Gauges.

the deck doesn't fit in the glove compartment, i tried that, you may need to remover your HEATER SYSTEM in-order to fit the deck and be able to close the compartment, but that's with my panasonic deck, some deck may be shorter and would fit, another way is to cut the cup holders in the glove compartment to fit.
