Where to get stainless steel pipe?

I need to get some 2.5 inch stainless steel pipe. I need like 6-7 feet and I would prefer the brushed look and not the shiny chrome look. Does anyone know where I can find this stuff? I need it to make an exhaust. I searched over the net and came up with a lot of industrial companies that make you buy a truck load; but I need a couple feet. Any suggestions on maybe a common local supplier that would normally carry some? Do exhaust shops usually have SS pipe? Like Mighty Muffler or something of the like? Roughly how much money am I looking at for this? Thanks for any leads.

Whoa! That **** is expensive. There has got to be a better source for this stuff. I don't need building grade material. I'm assuming that the SS pipe they use for exhausts is thinner and less expensive. If not then I will use cheap steel and just use a stainless tip.

Try Burns Stainless, their in Calif. and are really nice people. They have lots of different sized tube and bends. they have a web site and I'll look around for their address and post it when I find it.(I've got it somewhere.) They do a lot of stuff with race cars. McMaster/Carr has everything, but they are really expensive and sometimes it takes a while to get your order. i've bought a bunch of stuff from Burns and they ship really fast.

That is the address for that burns place. They seem to have good prices. And a racing background too.

Thanks!

P.S. I HATE Jegs; I will never buy a damn thing from them again. Lets just say I had a bad experience.

ya summit too but ss is kinda expencive, aluminum is a good way to go, are you going to weld it yourself or have someone do it for you? and were you going for the ss hangers too or just regular hangers those are surprisingly expenceive too.

I'm just gonna use regular hangers. Is it possible to weld mild steel to stailess steel? The only part of the exhaust that will be stailess is going to be the muffler and tip. I am having a single 2.5 inch pipe welded onto the muffler and a flange welded onto the other end to mate up to the racing beat presilencer. I will also need a stailees tip welded onto the other side of the muffler. Then I will have the needed hangers welded on. Does anyone see any problem areas in this situation? I know there is a different cord needed to weld with stainless, but what about mild~stainless? And will this avarage muffler shop guy have a flange that will work to mate up to the presilencer? I'm thinking the presilencer has a preaty common flange since it will mate up to any cat-back of equal size. Finding the 5 inches of 2.5 inch stainless steel pipe I need for the tip is another issue. Nobody is gonna sell 5 inches. And the lil tip that is already on the muffler will not reach out the back bumper. And I do not want that heat melting the whole area back there. I guess I could just get one of those aftermarket tips and just screw it on but that's ghetto; if ya ask me.

You can either MIG or TIG them, it will work fine... TIG is a very very clean weld tho, longer lasting in my opinion.. But all I have here is a MIG, and as you guessed it everything gets MIG'ED

Yes, stainless IS expensive.&nbsp J.C. Whitney used to carry this stuff in SS 409 grade.&nbsp Don't get demanding on finishes unless you want to pay for it...

I know J.C.Whitney has an online website, but I don't remember it off-hand.&nbsp If you have their huge catalog in-hand, you can probably find it still listed...

Nah, the cheapest finish is "unfinished."
