ENGINE fuse in the interior powers the fuel pump.

You turn the key to ON..........power passes thru the key to the interior fuse box row of fuses called IG1..............IG1 has a fuse called ENGINE fuse...........ENGINE fuse now powers the Circuit Opening Relay...............pump does not run at this point............HOLD the key to START ..........that pulls in the Circuit Opening Relay...................power from the ENGINE fuse now passes thru the contacts of the relay and power NOW goes to the fuel pump.

There are variations of how power passes to the fuel pump from the Circuit Opening Relay, such as.................instead of holding the key to START...........jumper the fuel pump check connector in the engine bay.........that causes a ground to be put on one of the two coils of the Circuit Opening Relay.........relay closes and now powers the pump from the ENGINE fuse.

Or key to ON and hold the vane of the afm aft at least 1/8" and that act accomplishes just what the above paragarph does.

Pump does NOT run by just putting the key to ON. Talking series four cars, not series five cars.

JPG attached is for series four turbo car. Non turbo is similar except there is no fuel pump resistor/relay on non turbo cars.

Thanks for the information. When is is having hot start issues pulling that fuse doesn't get it to start. The only thing so far that has worked is disconnecting the fuel pump directly.

Just pulling the EGI fuse, will NOT get your car to Start..per say.
You Pull the fuse so the power to the injectors is Disconnected and the engine gets NO fuel.
Then By cranking the engine over,it will expel any excess fuel. When you Put the Fuse back IN,that will give the Injectors their Power BACK,so it can Give the engine Fuel, like normal.and allow the car to start "fresh".

My fuel injectors must leak because just pulling that fuse doesn't seem to cut fuel off to the car. You can pull the fuse and crank it and it will never fire up and die no matter how long you try. Unplugging the fuel pump and cranking it starts it up first try.

Make your life easier by installing a fuel pump cutoff switch under the dash. That way you can quickly disable the fuel pump to get the car started, then switch it on to keep running. The added benefit is it makes a good theft prevention device.

As an aside, once I started premixing, I no longer have cold or hot startup issues...for now at least. YMMV.
