Arrow where does your stock temp gauge sit usually?

Ok guys my stock temp gauge usually gets to the dead center of the temp range after about a half hour of driving and stays there. I always figured this was normal considering its the center but i just read another thread where a guy panicked, shut off his car and applied an external fan to cool down the block after his temps passed a quarter of the gauge.

So where should it really be at normal running temps?

Mine also sits right in the center. I always thought that was the normal position.

S4s should be around 1/4 way up

S5s should be around 1/2 way up

My S4 N/A runs a quarter of the gauge. Though I have removed the entire A/C, all teh lines and the condenser.

haha, it was *3/4* of the way up... NOT a "quarter of the gauge".

Like someone else said, 1/4-1/3 on the s4's and 1/2 on the s5's.

Good question on your setup though...

*ponders*

This is a good question for the FSM wiring diagram, or someone who knows said diagram very well.

I *believe* (but don't hold me to this) that the temperature gauge/sensor setup is separate from the ECU, and that it should still behave in typical S4 fashion. However, if the gauge is run through the ECU, it could affect things.

I have an S4, and while it normally runs 1/4 or so, I don't worry if it gets up to 1/2 - it'll do that with the A/C on in traffic. 3/4ths, and I start getting concerned. The only way I've ever seen 3/4ths is autocross in 1st gear.

If you're concerned, try replacing the thermostat (if you haven't done that recently). If it still stays up around 1/2, don't worry about it too much, or get an aftermarket temperature gauge.
