I would rather rebuild my alternator instead of buying a reman. I can't find a kit anywhere. I have an 88 n/a but I was thinking about getting a kit for a 91 do you think it would work?

Take it to an auto electrician and have them recondition it, or see if they'll get you the parts you need.

Find an alternator speciality shop - they should be able to sell you the brushes.

***RESSURRRECCCCTTT!!!!!***

Okay, so I'm pulling my alt apart so I can clean and paint it.... I figured while I'm in there to replace some parts since rebuilding alts is a piece of cake it appears. There's GOTTA be an online place that sells alternator parts... Do you think maybe a mazda dealership would sell the parts?

I haven't looked for an "alternator specialty shop" but I can't imagine such a thing exists.. weirder things have happened though.

It is, as long as you have a HUGE soldering iron. Otherwise you're going nowhere fast...

Not everything in the world has to be online y'know... Here's the info I used to recondition my FD alternator. It mentions the source he used for part. You may have to ring them and actually talk to a human.

Any auto electrician should be able to source the parts. How do you think they rebuild them? Again, talking to someone works great. Take the alternator to a shop and ask for the bits you need.

try places that sell Pumps, generators,Electrric Motors.Things of That nature,You are looking for Brushes and the Bearing for the ending Casing.Another suggestion would be am Upgrade to a FD alternator(if you have an FC)..Or if you find a Alternator Rebuild shop,What the can do is REdo your Armature(?) windings to give the thing More Output. Some guys can do this and get a good 100 or more out of the regular 70 amps from an Rewound FC alt...you can also Try Silverrotor(canadain Moderator).he WAS selling the FD alts for an FC..somewhere to the tune of $200 or so.

I picked it up really cheap (~NZ$80) with the original intention of just slapping it on as it, but that never happens. I had it tested and electrically it was fine but the bearings were a little grumbly, so I replaced just them (~NZ$40). Then since it was a part I had the housings bead-blasted (~NZ$30), then I bought an FD support/adjustment bracket (~NZ$25) and a hacked up FD harness to get the right plug (~NZ$5), plus stuff I had lying around like paint, wire, insulation tape etc, and then a buch of mucking around getting my FC dual-belt pulley machined to suit. So maybe NZ$180 (~US$130).

If you go here: http://jcw.webepc.com/servlets/WebEPC35?ns=Charging%20Alternator+%26+Voltage+Regu lator%201987%20MAZDA%20RX-7&cl=jcw&vc=1987|51|RX7|7639&grc=11011&grd=Chargin g&JCWRETURN=www.jcwhitney.com&storeId=10101&catalo gId=10101&sgc=12086

You'll find brush sets, bearings etc.

Well that link does not work. Try this http://jcw.webepc.com/servlets/WebEP...&storeId=10101

That site can drive you nuts. It helps, if you get lost, to click on their toolbar that says PARTS COUNTER. It's a fairly good site. In the past I've bought the SunCoast series five alternator for a turbo car. It comes with a pigtail harness about six inches long so the alt can be used on a non turbo or turbo with no interference issues.

Very cool! Thanks! I searched that site, but I guess I got lost... Summit racing was also no help... neither was jegs... but they never are.

Thanks! Now to see if its cheaper than a rebuilt alternator.
