Where to buy Jspec Ver.9812billion +1
Where to buy Jspec Ver.9812billion +1
Looking to purchase a motor for my 88 vert that I am doing a TII swap into. Question is where do I purchase my jspec. I dont mind paying more for a good motor compared to being cheap and getting something meh. I do know though that I shouldent expect it to last long and if I want to do it the right way I should buy one and get it rebuilt. But I'm stubborn and have a daily driver so it can blow up all it wants.
I've heard both good and bad things about Osaka.
Someone local said they deal with nippon-motors and have always gotten good motors but looking at their site they dont even have a start-up warranty much less a 30 day warranty on the shortblock that most other importers do.
I heard Corksport also import , but dont know anything about them really.
Basically I am looking for feedback. I'd rather keep it local (Philly, PA , Tristate Area) that way I can inspect before I buy but I have no problem ordering online as long as I can be somewhat sure that I'll be alright. Theres obviously no full gaurantee on this kind of thing. Compression testing on US shore motors are obviously a plus.
Thanks to all those reply to this old and beaten topic.

www.rx7world.com you can get a J-spec engine with less than 40k miles on it.
i'd say osaka then have it rebuilt
although alot of people complain about osaka, there are also just as many good words about them
they are by far the cheapest
www.jspecauto.com
isn't too greatly expensive, but i've not heard any good guy bad guy storys on them, so i can't help you there
you'd probably be best find a used engine in the forums, and then have it rebuilt
it'd be cheaper, and theres no difference really in a j-spec and a-spec engine

These guys are in Augusta, GA and can get almost anything jspec. I've done some buisness with them and it went well. Two weeks ago i was in their shop and they had 2 89-91 motors/ tranny W/harness among much more stuff. So give them a call and see what they have available.

I went with Nippon. They called me back when i asked them to, they sent pics of the motor, and shipping was less than a week Cali to Ohio by freight.
The motor seems in good shape, I didnt do but a little ATF and that was about three weeks before the start up. I kept the original plugs in the thing and tried to crank expecting nothing and the damn thing fired up. The only negetive is it seems I need to rebuild the turbo due to oil leaking out the downpipe. It doesnt have shaft play though and seems low miles.

Emailed Nippon yesterday, aparrantly they dont do rotaries anymore. Well that sucks , I've heard too many bad things about Osaka but I guess I'm stuck going with them unless I find someone local.
Question: I hear you can use the S5 NA's harness for the turbo swap...
I figure it requires some sort of mods (ie, pulling pins, or leaving the emissions out)...
Just curious whether that means if I want to buy a T2 engine I don't need to buy/modify an RHD harness some day
