Wheels dont turn...brake are stuck

Ok well i finally got the car back together and have a pretty big problem but i am hoping the solution is easy.

ive replace pads, lines, rotors.

rotors were pretty easy but the front ones needed a bunch of banging to get out
pads were good however the rear calipers were really tight when putting it back on over the pads
lines were ok, just need to put on the passgenger side front one.

i have no brake fluid if that makes a difference

heres the problem
the rotors spin freelly but when i put the wheel on and tighten them the wheels wont turn. if i loosen the lug nut a big the wheels will turn...wtf is going on?

Front, rear or all of them? If it's just the rears, did you loosen the parking brake adjuster?

all of them, unfortunatly....

if the lug nuts are loose i can roll the car.

im using tuner lugs on a normal stock rim...since its all i had, but i cant see how that makes a difference

Only thing I can think of is the front pistons weren't pushed all the way in, and the rear's weren't turned all the way in. The rotor is hitting the inboard pad and when you tighten the lug nuts the rotor is pushed tight against the inner pad. Remove and try and push the front pistons in, and turn the rears in. Make certain they're not stuck.

somehow the inside pads are rubbing when you tighten your lugs. When you tighten the lugs it is pushing the rotors inward contacting the pads. Make sure it is all moving freely. The rears should not have been tight when you put them back on. you may need to turn the piston a few more times to open the caliper more.

ok well it is definetly the inside pad...since the marks of left on the rotor one i took it off.

with the caliper and the rotor off the car i can put them together and i have almost enough space to squeeze in a quarter so the caliper isnt the problem

is there a washer that sits b/w the caliper and were it mounts to the spindle?

your caliper is not floating correctly. It needs to index over the rotor

The rotor has a the larger "base" and then the inside part that houses the piston and pads. From what you describe the only thing I can think of is that the inside part is not moving over like it should for some reason. I'm not there so I can't see much, so throwing ideas against the wall is all you going to get when you have a wierd situation like you have........if it wasn't a strange situation you would have gotten about 50 "Search Noob" replies by now.

i really appreciate you trying to help cuz everyone else has no clue.

unfortunatly i dont really see what i can do right now?

i pulled the rotor and caliper off the car, with the caliper off and the pads in it the rotor fits no problem it even has space to wiggle around...could i be missing some mounting hardware?

There are the smaller bolts on your calipers they have that rubber boot with the bellows type of thing on it. Those are where your caliper adjust itself. The caliper slides back and forth on those screws.

Look at this way. if your calipers are not working properly and one piston is stuck then the other piston is going to do all the work and your pads are going to wear uneven. One side will wear faster. Well what happens if one side is worn? The caliper has to move to compensate or else you'll have break faliure on that one caliper.

Now that your thinking about the caliper "moving" or indexing over the rotor. I think you can examine it to see why the caliper is not adjusting itself when your rotor gets pushed in with your lug nuts.

That is all I can think that could be happening.

The only other thing is you mentioned spacers??? Is that for your wheels? Or.....

And another thing......sometimes I'll be throwing things against the wall and say something really stupid.....then the Guru's come out form behind the shadows with the real answers and the problems are solved.

Just a funny observation

i just tried spacers with no wheel to make sure nothing was hitting the wheel. i wanted to apply the same pressure to the rotor....and the same thing happend

maybe im just tired but wut your describing is for the rear calipers right? not the front four piston ones

which ones are locking up?? They should both work this way. The rears have that piston that screws back in. did you screw it in as far as it would go?

ok i've figured out the problem. To tired to keep working on the car now though so i will explain exactly what i did 2moro...i can sleep well now lol

it has to do with the screws that mount the calipers hitting the rear of the rotor. I think the bolts were changed because with the two washer the manual says you need the bolts still touch the rotors. Maybe i only had one on the ones touching but am pretty sure i have to....ill fix it up 2moro

thanks alot man

i feel like a dumbasss
