wheel/tire question

ok, I have 16x7 inch wheels right now. I want to put 225/55 tires on them all around, but i dont know if they will fit on the wheel. Will they or wont they? What is the widest tires I could fit on 16x7 inch rims?

225's will work OK, but 7.5 or 8" rims are best for 225's. I'd probably go 215's on the 7's, depending on the tire manufacturer, but it doesn't really matter too much. 225's on my 17x7.5's are very nearly flush with the rim face, so it shouldn't be too bad at all on 7's if you really want the extra rubber.

alright, i just want to make sure im not gonna come across any problems. im not worried about it being totally flush, i just dont want the tire coming off in corner or something.

225/50-16, not 225/55-16.

they make 225/55's though. i figured if i put 225/50's on there then they wouldnt fill up the wheel wells enough.

225/50-16 will match stock height exactly.

if you go with the 225/55-16 your speedo will be off about 4% at 60MPH and the sidewall will be 1/2 of an inch taller (4.4" VS 4.9")

225/40/16's is what I ran on my bimmer and even with the tiny sidewall of the 40 series they still fit great on 16x7" rims. The extra sidewall protects the rim from curb rash and doesn't flare the tire enough to affect performance. With a 50 series tire on the same size rim you shouldn't have any problems at all.
