Unhappy Wheel problem!! need advice fast!!!

I just got my rims from Wheelmax and they look funny with the tires that came on them. They are 17x8`s (look like 8.5`s to me) and I ordered them with the biggest tire package they had, the 215/45/17 Kumho's. The problem is that the tires are a full 1" skinnier than the ones I am taking off which are 8" FD wheels with 225/50/16 tires on them. It looks like the tires are reaching out to the rim rather than being held in by it. My question is what should I do? Is Wheelmax cool with returns or exchanges? or will they hit me with so many fees that it is cheaper to just buy other tires. This pisses me off since the first time I ever buy new tires and rims I get something I don`t like the looks of for $1400. Also what size tires will physically be the same size as 225/50or45/16`s??? (I will probably be putting wheel flares on so keep that in mind also).

Anyone been in this bind before?

I say, just use the tires. I have seen size discrepancies with Kuhmo’s before. My bro got the victoracers and we noticed the tire looked a little bit smaller in every department, especially outer diameter. Are you sure that the actual tread width is 1” smaller then the old tires, or does it just look that way since the section width is going to be smaller since you now have a taller wheel.

are you fabbing flares or getting them some place? are you ready to cut yor rear quarter pannel?

I decided that once put on the car and spaced out right they looked good. I am just not used to the difference straight sidewalls make in the way a tire looks, the contact patch is actually pretty good. My only complaint is that I think I notice the handling is not quite as nimble but they are crome wheels that are probably a good bit heavier than the 3rd gen wheels I took off. BTW the 3rd gen wheels and tires are for sale, they have nice directional dunlops on them at 80% tread.
