Wheel hop, my situation.

Hey guys whats doing?

I spent yesterday reading through countless wheel hop threads on here and have got a much better understanding of it now. Most people point it out to suspension too stiff, diff mount, worn shocks, bad bushings etc.

Ill tell you my symptoms and my setup to see where my problem most likely lies.

86 FC - 300rwhp.
Tein coilovers front and back.
New bushings all round.
Re Amemiya diff centre.
17" Volk rims, 245's on the back.

* The suspension is in good condition, but really stiff.
* The car is very low and the camber is equating to neg 3.5 at the back.
* Diff mounts are fine, gearbox mount fine and engine mounts fine.

Now for when i get wheel hop and badly:

* Launching off the start the whole back of the car bounces and sounds like the whole rear end is about to fall out.
* If i reverse up a hill the whole car wheel hops off the start badly.
* Basically any sudden power boost/ load will do it.

The car drives smoothly, driving under boost in motion and breaking traction from simply the accelerator being applied there is NO wheelhop. If i ride the clutch a bit i can prevent wheel hop, but with a solid centre 4 puck clutch this aint good.

So my dilema is what am i going to do about it this week? Make the suspension softer see how that goes? Because its so low am i going to have to raise it a bit. Is this wheel hop being caused due to the fact my IRS is way out of its threshold? The guards sit nicely over the tyre. - How much do people have there FC's lowered generally?

I want to be able to launch off the line and just leave 2 black marks how my rx2 used to. At the moment im regretting buying an IRS car, but the handling makes up for it. When i first bought the car i thought it was the clutch causing this shuddering but now it makes sense for it to be wheel hop!

Cheers in advance for those that reply

HAPPY EASTER to everyone too.

Andy.
