whats your opinion ?

Hey i was thinking about buying a rx-7 this would be my first one. i know a bit about them my dad had one. Now i was wondering if it would be better to buy a rx-7 thats nice inside and out but a blown engine or no engine. i was think of trying to get one for like $500-$900bucks. then get a new engine or re-build. Have any of you done this ? I don't got alot of money to work with i got like $6000 and that about all and my 300zx thats for sale. If this is a good idea where is a good place to look for the car and can i get a rotary engine in Canada or do i got to get it shipped in from the us. Thanx for any help!! oh one more thing should turbo or none. $6000 Canadian is like all i got to spend thx agian.

If you get one with no engine or a wrecked engine, you are gonna have to bust your *** to make sure the rest of it is fine... Like my Dad always said "Don't buy someone elses' problem."
There is a guy up in Canada that sells rebuilt engines wicked cheap... I want to say about 1800 canadian... If you hunt around a bit on the internet, you will stumble across their website.

really do you know where around in Canada and c the reason i was think about doing it this way was because the rx-7's here for sale are like $4500 cheapest and you don't know who much life there is in it. this way i would know that with the rebuild there is alot of life left in it! If you know that site for the engine in Canada could you give it to me and where around in Canada thx.

i got my T2 for 250 bucks with a blown engine. the body is in rough shape but the interrior is great. the suspension needs some work too. i put in a j-spec for 900 bucks and it runs pretty good, but i need a radiator and an alternator. all the mods on it i already had from a previous T2. its nice but its definatley a project car. if you go the route of buying a car with a blown engine, make sure the rest of the car is in damn good shape. its alot of work but i can honestly say i know alot about my car now. ive replaced just about everything on it and need to rplace just about everything else. i have no regrets about buying a project car though, i have enjoyed the work ive had to do on it. i guess i have some weird facination with starting from nothing and trying to make something great out of it.

I think its a great idea. A blown engine will drop the price of a car well below what it should take to get a new/rebuilt engine(or should at least). You will get to know exactly what has been done to the car and when and how well its maintained.

Look around in the papers. I just found an '89 T-II for $1000 (US) and am hoping the engine is just suffering from carbon lock...........compression is coming up should know for sure in a couple of days. Even if that doesn't pan out I still got a NICE rolling chassis for cheap and can do a rebuild in my (nonexistant) spare time.

Plus I still have my '86 NA for a daily driver till this one gets running.

What does the rebuild engine come with the tranny or do in to find one or hope it comes with the car i buy?? I got this idea when my friend blown the engine in his rx7 and sold the body for $700canadian and the car was perfect besides the engine. Also do you guy got any idea's of where i should look for body of a rx7 i live in Canada?!?!

Get one with a blown engine for a core or to have that actual engine rebuilt.

Umm...lol. I got 20mpg before I put my DP/MP, walbro pump and new fuel filter on. That was shifting before the secondary injectors kicked in though

I believe the the 7 will win stock for stock by about half a second. With these old cars its hard to tell though. But I believe that the 7s respond better to mods and definitely handle alot better.

Didn't you just start this thread last night? Lol. Well I saw a fully running TII for sale in NY for $1700obo. Had the 3800rpm hesitation and a few other little problems but had a rebuilt engine. It was in the for sale section unless its sold.
