what's wrong with my seatbelt

the auto seatbelt on my passenger side has been messing up the last few days, not going down all the way or up. when my friend opened the door yesterday some kind of cable just fell out from the seat belt track and now it doesn't work at all. I'm guessing the cable is connected to the motor which winds it up to pull the seat belt, but i'm not entirely sure. Has anyone had this problem or know of a way to fix it. I just stuffed the cable back into the tracks to get it out of the way for now. I tried manually winding the motor so it would pull the cable back in but that stopped working after a few turns and it seems like it's stuck. Any ideas?

Take it to your local mazda dealer and they will fix it FREE.

You're welcome.

if they dont replace it, call up the mazda number thats on the recall page for the auto seat belts (just search it on yahoo "mazda rx7 recalls"), they will call up your dealership and all of a sudden they will be nice and happy to replace the seat belt. it is lifetime no matter what, replaced already or not. its cheaper for mazda to do this than take law suit chances by people who become injured due to a malfunctioning seat belt.

Just make sure they don't break the A-pillar plastic and try to repair it with tape.

It is for the S5 only. We are referring to the automatic passive system. The cable gets hung up thereby causing it not to work. You might be able to lubricate the spring mechanism in the S4 cars.

Just so you know, it will probably take you two trips. One for them to examine the thing, then order parts. Nest week or so, the repair itself.

Mine was done once by the previous owner and it broke again.

Considering 3 trips to the dealer (2 with 2 cars for drop off & pick up), I just disabled the system.

I positioned the carrier in the rear locked position & just put the belt on manually.
I also disconnedted the passive belt control box (under the glove box), so I dont get a warning light.

they looked at mine and fixed it within about an hour and a half. Ended up having to replace the whole motor and assembly, not too bad of a deal for free i think. Plus i test drove an rx-8 while i was waiting. Don't know why all the hype over the car though, I would honestly rather drive my 15 year old 7. The power and the sound is nice, but the digital speedo and just the feel of it aren't nearly as exciting. Thanks again for giving me the heads up on the recall
