Grey is the switching solenoid. At idle there should be a vacuum passing thru it and arriving at one of the nipples above the acv. Should be the fwd of the two metal nipples sticking straight up. When you step on the gas, the switching solenoid gets energized and closes, eliminating the vacuum on that nipple just described. On the whole, it determines whether air from the air pump goes to the PORT AIR or the SPLIT AIR. De-energized, the air goes to the PORT AIR, energized the air goes to the SPLIT AIR.

Green and white check valves??? The one under the throttle body goes to the double throttle diaphram (I'd bet money the diaphram is busted in it. I've never seen one that worked). Its really called a DELAY valve, but as far as I'm concerned its a check valve with tricks.

The one on the other side of the engine is a check valve. Helps maintain vacuum on the solenoids on the whole.

If you bust one, at least get a straight pipe and connect both hose that went to it. Much better than nothing. Get one out of a wrecking yard later, but do connect both hose that went to it for sure. Thats the one on the left side of the engine.

Bust the one that goes to the double throttle diaphram? Plug the hose coming from the rear of the engine or connect the two lines together with a plastic vac pipe from autozone or pepboys. That one is not as critical as the other one. The double throttle is spring loaded open on a 86-88 n/a car.

Wow hailers thnx for that info. It really helps.

Ok I have an 89 and the Double Diaphragm or DOUBLE THROTTLE PLATES are completly off As part of the TB mod. So this Daphragm seems to be useless now. Also I took off my Cruise control. THier seems to be a slpit in the hose next to the green white check valve so Can I just block these parts off???

SO Your saying that I can take the selonoid (GREY) off and connect the ends with silicone vac hoses?

And You say plastic hose from Pepboys? Cant I just use my silicone vacs or even my standard rubber hose? Why do I have to use plastic. Sorry for the comom sense ?s its just you said some things that im taking to seriously because I want to do it right. Thnx alot

Another ? is , you know that little rectangular hole under the two primary oval runners? well I got a little bit of shavings in their. Its just metal dust and only a little. DOes this go inside the rotor? I know its part of the ACV system. Thnx again.

Oh, shoot. I was not clear about the grey solenoid. No you don't want to connect both hose on that item. Only the green checkvalves if they have a broken nipple. Sorry 'bout that.

No, you should get another from the wreck yard or if you still have the broken plastic, glue that broken nipple back on. Not a good fix, the glue. I've taken a toothpic, put vaseline on it. Then put epoxy on the broken edge of the nipple thats broke. Offer up the broken nipple to the body with the toothpick thru the hole on both. This will align the two parts. Let set for ??????? and withdraw the toothpick. It should not have stuck due to the vaseline. Getly put the hoses back on. Works ten percent of the time.

Now to contradict myself. if you have no solenoid from the wreck yard, you might just connect both those hose together until you get a new part. Don't care how or what you use to connect those two hose that were on the grey solenoid. A small plastic pipe was just a thought.

On the split hose, yeah just get another piece of hose and replace the split one (somehow I was thinking the checkvalve was broke, oh well).

On the foreign object.....uh, try to get it out but if its just a small itty bitty thing.......let it go. I'm a little lost on the hole. I have 86 and 88's. If it goes to the acv, then it won't get to the rotors. It will most likely go to the port air which means to the exaust.

I think we're back on the same page.
