Whats So good about Super Seals? And Should I?

Im rebuilding my motor and i previously had atkins apex seals. A friend Suggested that I should look into Super Seals... But im not familiar with them can someone pleas give me some insight? Thank you

Whats the difference?
And what are the benefits?

Can't go wrong with OEM seals. I've heard mixed reviews on these ones however.

super seals will **** your housing up when it blows.

i had classic seals on my last engine before i sold it and it still runs like a champ. ask tylers5fc, drifts it like a madman

Dont the OEM apex seals ruin your housings too if they detonate??

Does anyone know someone using them? i need someone who has actually experienced them.

I know kompressorlogic has a set running in his fresh rebuild that hes planning to run some serious boost through

From what I have read and used on the search option when I was looking into them is they dont break they bend meaning if they pop out there is alot more damage, other then that I have no clue on longevity while using the seals, they are alot harder so I do assume you will see more wear over time but if you start to have compression problems you could always pull off the exhaust manifold and look to see if they are warped?

but at $270 a set from there website thats the same price as atkins cryo's I have heard better reviews about the Ra's

anything will **** up your housing when it detonates. super seals just do it waaay worse.

oem seals from experience are pretty good. i still had rebuilt an engine that i sold to a friend that uses the mazda oem seals with a street port and it runs pretty damn good. this was about a year or two ago. he's on here alex n/a or something like that.

so i wouldnt spend money on so called "better" seals unless your wanting to hit 500hp. its not always about the seals its about the build.

I have superseals for my girls 13bt. They were recommended to me from my builder (smg944) because while RA super seals scratch a bit more, they do not break. In an engine being built for reliability and not the highest initial compression possible, they seemed to be the best choice. Her keg will be completed probably Monday.

I know most of Puerto Rico's race cars use RA's I did want to use them for my build but I'm not going to make an obscene amount of hp's nor am I going to race it so I will go with OEM seals.
If some of our cars can go 200,000+ miles on OEM seals then why not. Ive heard of some of our cars can 400+ hp's on OEM seals then why not go OEM.

I will speak from personal experience. My RA 2mm Super Seals have survived the following events:

1. On stock turbo: regularly leaning out when I had low fuel pump voltage, no audible detonation

2. On stock turbo: audibly detonating (a tink! sound) twice at an 18psi boost spike in cold weather

3. On T04S 60-1 turbo: Switched to a Power FC and removed AFM. A hose blew off and the MAP sensor no longer read accurately, resulting in advanced timing and a lean mixture. Engine severely detonated twice, annihilating my BR10EIX spark plugs.

Apex seals were intact, but I decided I to rebuild the engine anyway. The seals spec'd out nearly perfect. I reused the seals after experiencing multiple serious detonation events.

4. On T04R turbo: Due to engine torque output, the fuel tank tends to slosh hard in low gears. The motor has leaned out three times and not blown up, although I didn't hear any audible detonation.

5. On T04R turbo: a little over a year ago I heard the dreadful "marbles in a can" sound one night. I added more fuel at lower boost levels and pulled three degrees of timing

6. On T04R turbo: knock sensor reading spiked one night on the Power FC. It may or may not have been actual detonation but the engine did not blow up.

WoW Thanks for the input guys i really appreciate it...

I plan on getting the most fun out of my car and I had plans to drift and auto cross in it and judging from what arghx has said they seem like the best choice for higher horse power levels and basicly if you plan to beat the **** out of your car...

Keep me updated on how they break in and how the motor runs bro. Thanks

Just to be clear: I have had good luck with the RA 2mm Super Seals, but you still need proper tuning and solid mechanical systems to keep your engine from failing.

I'll let you know when it blows. Motor runs great! Only issue I have is overheating. Nothing a Koyo Radiator won't fix. Which was just shipped out monday.
