Whats safe to use to clean the cone filters?

What are you all using to clean your air filters? Soap and water? something else? can you use a high pressure sprayer or will that tear it up? Also what are you using to lube it once cleaned? Dip it, dunk it, soak it, scrub it, rub it, shake it?

I did a search, but nothing came up under "clean AND air" so...

Really, the best thing to do is invest in a K&N recharger kit. They aren't very expensive and it comes with all the cleaners and oils you need.

Using compressed air or water will destroy the filter. Remember, your filter is what keeps crap out of your engine. You might as well clean and re-oil it properly.

Anyone know what that K & N kit consists of, I don't mind spending the money, but I don't want to wait for the order.. It would be nice to get a equivalent locally.

Any Pep Boys / Autozone should be able to get it. Any speedshop that sells K&N filters will also carry the "Recharger Kit".

It's basically a cleaner and a light oil. Someone figured out what an equivalent "light oil" was - you might want to try and do a web search. You can always use a good dishwashing detergent to wash the filters out with. DO NO DO THIS WITH CHEAP CONE FILTERS. The K&N filters are made out of a cotton gauze material, which can handle the cleaning - most of the cheap Taiwanese stuff is some crappy paper pulp, which will fall apart if you try and clean it. You should be buying another cheapy filter in this case.

Ted, are you familiar with fogging oil? Does that seem like a decent choise as a light oil to add?

I have spray cans of that ****, I use it on my JetSki's all the time.
