What's this next to the ECU ?

ok, Im ready to pull the engine out, needs to unplug the ECU connector and I found this ...



ECU wrap in food wrap ... I was like *hmm, well done?*

no bracket, nothing, its bascially just "hang" there the whole time, Im surprised the pointy solder points didn't punch a hole thru the food wrap & create a short and fried the whole ECU ...

the reason is that one of the previous owner installed some whack *** Viper alarm to the car, wires were sliced and soldered into the harness, I cut all those bullshit alarm wires and going to rip the whole system later. (I will install a "real" alarm to the car later myself, at least I know I won't just slice **** up like this)

Question as follows :

1. The ECU has no sticker on it, nothing. Why is that? I assume that means this is a "reman" ECU from some company ? My car is a 91 S5 NA, so I assume this is a N350 ECU (No sticker, plus this car originally came from California) Is there any way to tell which ECU is this? again, it has no sticker on it.

2. Will a N351 ECU work ?

3. on some picture I saw a box on the left of the ECU? can anybody tell me what's that ?



4. I supposed to remove a "plate" to be able to access to the ECU. But I don't see no "plate", I just lift the carpet and I saw the ECU just hanging there. so I guess this "plate" is missing with the ECU bracket, I found the ECU bracket part number but its NLA from Mazda, Anybody know the "plate" part number or where is it locate in the FSM ?

What's that? as mine is "missing" ?

The plate is missing. It's there so the passengers feet dont' rest agains the ECU. The plate covers the ECU when in use.

I think the 351 is for a turbo car and you should not use it on a n/a. I'll let others answer your other questions.

EDIT: I was wrong. N370 is for turbo. The 351 should work on your non turbo series five car.

the ECU should be bolted down on the top and bottom not "hanging" there.
even though it cant hang cause the plugs are on the bottom of the ECU
when i lifted my carpet to check some readings at the ECU pins it was sitting next to another ECU that was bolted down like its supposed to
I cant read the tag but it almost looks factory (im probably wrong)

do you happen to know the part number of the "plate" ?

Cuz what you guys see is what the ECU was the whole time ---- its just there with no cover and no bracket.

honestly, I have no idea what ECU it is, cuz there is no label on it



I pulled the ECU out and its in my room right now. See? no label whatsoever

Like I said earlier, I can only "assume" that this is a Reman ECU from Cardone. That's also the reason why it has no Mazda label.

and I can only "assume" this is a N351 ECU.

No bracket, no Plate, it just exactly what you see in the picture.

After seeing this I want to know what brand of food wrap is that ---- even the pointy solder joints can't break it, must be some really good food wrap.

Anyway, I need to find the bracket, probably need to buy a ECU just for that reason. and the "plate" to let people rest their feet on ...

Isn't that small rectangular box an ABS brake control?

Also don't buy the kickplate/cover new from mazda. There are plenty of people parting out and there is one in every FC.

On an s4 the Anti-theft module is a little gold box up and behind the glove box. Also for an s4 the ABS module is in the back driver side of the car....

but s5? dunno...

My car does not have ABS.

and I dunno if that's Anti-Thief or whatever ... its just not there.

I know, I will start a WTB thread soon but just wanna know what the part number is and which section it is in the FSM. cuz I looked thru the whole damn FSM and I just can't "find" it.

Can anybody show me what the "kick plate" looks like ?

^ don't buy a plate from Mazda!! They are on every FC and I bet you someone who has parted out a few has them lying around. I believe they are referred to as kickplates...but am not sure.

Just have no idea the protector plate's part number. Can't seem to find it anywhere.

(Edit: looks like you have this, but the brackets on the ECU itself are missing)

The thing labled 69-910A in your last pic is the ECU cover plate. This is the official name and PN:

Support, Foot

FB01-69-697A

And the box next to the ECU in that pic may be a mouse belt controller. There's no knock box on S5s; it's integrated into the N370 ECU.

I'm confused why the part # is important if you're not buying the part...but each to their own.

From that part page I'd guess that #69-901A on the bottom of the page in the center is it

I have auto seat belt and its working (except for the idiot light thing) so I don't think its that.

and believe it or not, I just found the plate, same as the one you said. but the price ... I was like WOW ok they must be freaking nuts.

As for the bracket, its NLA from Mazda. so I have to find a used set.

it be great if you have a set + the plate to sell

I found it on MMS site, like 134 bux. almost gave me an heart attack.

if its like 20-30 bux. sure I just get it, not 134 bux dude. hahahaa

I rather just wait for a part out or try to fab a bracket/cover plate myself.

no way in hell I would buy that plate for 134 bux.

brackets are NLA, so I have to find them from a part out.

Im in that program cuz I've been doing some race with my rx8. I might turn the FC into another AutoX car, but before that I need to at least make it work (it has **** load of problems)
