Whats the latest on the Mazda Remans?

I am in need of a new engine and have searched the Mazda Remans, I have heard conflicting stories on these motors. However I am leading towards one. I have heard of them being as cheap as $1800 with a core and $2200 without a core. For the most part all that have gotten one seem to be pleased with em. When I was searching there was some talk about the new seals being bad? No one in the thread I was reading had that happen to them personally but thats the story that was going around. So what does everyone think on the Mazda Remans? I was told the Malloy Mazda was the place to get one as for some reason they are cheaper there? I am just looking for some honest input on these motors. I see Jspec motors going for $1200. So how are people able to get $1200 for a Jspec if you can get a Mazda Reman for $600 more? I would really like to hear some personal experiences more so then the usual ramble of how I should go here or there. So please unless you have had a Mazda Reman please refrain from inputing your 2 cents, unless it is really valid in what I am looking for. Also what all comes on this motor..? Oil Pan, Water Pump, Oil Pump...? Thanks for the input guys.

Well, I have a Mazda remanufactured engine in my base model. 25,000 miles later it is still going strong with no problems that I can see. Last time I checked compression it was even bounces of 100 PSI still. I have heard good and bad stories. I am just letting you know my good story.

EDIT: They reuse almost everything except the irons, rotors, so on. Basically all the internals are new. Everything else is reused if it is in specification or works properly.

Is there a specific website for Mazda Remans? My local dealer wanted $4000-$6000 for a reman.

I don't know, but I think the one that was in my parts car was like $2200 or somthing like that. I put it in the other car and with 45,000 miles on it it runs great.
BTW, I think they use new housings, and mill the irons, and like new rotors.

So Rotary Performance would prolly be better than a Reman since they seem to be on top of it and sell a rebuild for $2400..?

I have a Mazda Reman that I bought from someone with (supposedly) 11,000 miles on it (he had receipts for it). It seems to have a leaking coolant seal already, so with only 18,000 miles, it needs to be rebuilt. For your money, you're definitely better off getting your engine rebuilt rather than buying a reman IMO. Kevin Landers from Rotary Resurrection does some great work from what I hear, and his prices seem to be on par with a reman. There are several other good builders (usually a little more expensive) such as Pineapple Racing. I bought a rebuild from them a few years ago and it ran perfectly until I sold it (did a turbo swap) with about 20k miles on it. They also have the best warranty around, and the owner Rob was very helpful. I would be a little weary about another Mazda Reman, but other people have had no problems.

Diff between a J spec (entire engine) and Mazda reman (long block). The Mazda engine was $1987, full gasket set and shipping July 2002. Did not charge me a $1000 core deposit because KD did the installation. 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. I've got @ 13,000 miles (2 years) S5 TII-Running great 10.5/11 lbs. It runs strong with no problems.

Ya I just called Lunde Mazda here in Fargo and they said a reman short block was $1936.00 so I think I am gonna go with one of them as well. As my ol Jspec only made it one year before losing compression. It was a great motor though it still does not smoke or leak anything . This time I just like the idea of a fresh motor. I am glad everyone has pretty positive input on the Mazda Remans as thats the direction I am looking.

On the topic of getting a replacement engine...I know I will blow the engine in my TII eventually. Where is the most reliable place ot get a J-Spec? I'm looking for ones that are tested as much as possible to insure they are running well. I know there is always a risk with a J-spec, but I would like to reduce it as much as possible when the time comes.

Jspecs come in long block at the same price or lower than a US reman short block. My Jspec should come in Friday. I plan to run this until it dies, then I will buy a reman shortblock or rebuild the jspec. Its practically the same engine anywayz. O yea, Getting a jspec and rebuilding is way cheaper than buying a reman shortblock and buying all the other pieces.

Eternal Gamer you are following my path. Thats what I did is got a Jspec and now I am looking at getting a Mazda Reman. You are correct the Jspec can be had in long block form for cheaper than the reman short block. If I were still stock I may consider that to be a advantage but I already have extra of almost everything from the last Jspec. Plus I have a FMIC and 60-1 turbo and 720 & 890cc injectors and 2.5" TB inlet and so on. So I have to swap all the stuff over anyway, so it does not really matter it is almost easier for me to have it be in short block form cuz then I only have to strip down my blown motor and not the new one as well. The Reman will be ready to put everything on. I will admit though I am glad I did the Jspec last time because now I will always have 1 core on hand for exchange and dont have to be in a rush to yank the current moter in the car.

Why do you refer to them as "they" when you work there? Just curious.

That sux ya crashed your ride. Well I am really glad to hear all the positive response about the Mazda Remans. It makes me feel good with my decision to go with one. I have not heard to much negative about them. I think I have read where one person has not been satisfied. It seems a lot of people go with the Mazda Reman.
