what is best? best sounding? most power? Coolest looking? One that does your homework?
the best exhaust for power is no exhaust no restriction BUT ur carrrrrrr might catch fire. its a risk ya take eh....

to me doing a super expensive exhaust is SOOO over rated. I dont understand why people keep asking whats the best exhaust and what about this exhaust compared to this exhaust.... args
air going through a tube args

I'd have to say racing beats full three inch it's got a nice mellow rumble to it dosen't sound all ricer. looks stock for the most part except it's all stain less steel, is around I belive a 64-69 horse power gain on the stock set up with a fuel cut defencer.

okay, I DID NOT SAY BEST EXHAUST. re-read original post.
would sticking with the original dual exhaust be okay for a turboed NA (thats what i have!)
or is there a proper size to get so that i dont experience boost creep and all that good stuff.
i have an 87 NA streetported fresh rebuild with about 700ish on the motor.

edit: i havent seen any exhaust thread that was related to an NA/turbo. (stock hitachi unit)
which is the reason i'm asking. all i see is bigger is better.
i personally disagree with that type of mind set but to each there own. =D
FYI, my cars already caught on fire.. been there done that.
i've been havin 3 years worth of bad luck when it comes to FC..
i'm just NOW getting out of that slump.. lmao!

and dam 64-69 hp gain!? are you sure those numbers are correct?

Does this post smell like sarcasm, or are you serious?

'ideal exhaust setup' is going to be different depending on the person, not just the car, because people like different sounds, appearances, and the way exhaust feels (inside/outside the car). so for us to be able to give you any reasonable help, you need to define what your 'ideal exhaust' would feel like, sound like, and look like. oh and cost if you want to add that into the equation.

okay, i want an ideal exhaust that i can get a nice low tone out of, and wont induce the negative effects of having a turbo.
like size of exhaust?
stick to duals? or go single?
is there a make out there i can swap over to that will work on the hitachi unit, and still route around like through the NA stock exhaust setup?
mostly trying to go the torque route if it makes a difference (drift -autox-related applications)
like i said before, i have a turboed NA block, so not sure how difficult it'll be to find a proper exhaust thats already being produced.
so i thought i'd get the proper SIZE of the exhaust to work on the stock unit.

Any good quality exhaust will do as well as the next one. Beyond that you're talking about 1-2 HP gains. I'd pick one based on cost, reliability, sound, etc.

Racing Beat's turbo back exhaust is tested to give 50 HP on a turbo by itself, btw. And a lot of people around here claim that RB exhausts will outlast your car. Sound is mellow. Some people like that, others like loud.

okay, thanx. i was just looking for some reassurance.
i was thinking about getting the RB turbo back.
i'm still curious how difficult it would route up since i have the spacer on my turbo manifold to clear the LIM.. thats my real main concern though.

what about a lighter flywheel?
would that affect the performance in any negative way, seeing as its an NA-turbo?
NA-turbo gurus welcomed to input any comments and advice =D (in exchange for a beer and smile) lol jk.

I don't see how a lighter flywheel could hurt *shrug* and it'd probably help.

Lighter flywheels don't boost horsepower, but they do reduce the amount of momentum your engine needs to build up. Kind of like weight reduction. The difference would be most noticeable in 1st gear, since that's when the engine (and flywheel) accelerate the quickest.

An engine's power output rapidly goes up and down. The purpose of the flywheel is to store momentum during the peaks and release it during the dips. If you lighten your flywheel, the idle will be rougher and the rpms will drop faster when shifting. In general it makes your car harder to drive. But most turbo drivers in these forums who lighten their flywheel a little bit absolutely love the results.

Well, because it should catch faster and result in quicker shifts from start to finish, right?
