You're planning on doing a conversion when you don't know for sure if there's any difference yet?

S4's don't have sideskirts... I guess that counts as a difference...

Only S5 TII's had them btw...

Only S5 turbos had them...

But the 86-87 Sport, 88 GTU and 88 Turbo had the aero kit.

True... I wouldn't really consider those sideskirts though...

Lips in front of each wheel, a rear spoiler, and a underbody ground effects type spoiler around the oil pan

there is a difference the s5 fenders are wider along with the nose is wider. Thats what I was told when I was looking for a bodykit. The molding is diff also. Most bodykits were designed for the s5.

That is not a true statement. If that were the case an S5 front bumper would not match up to S4 fenders. There is also no width difference.

In my own PERSONAL experience (after doing a few S5 conversions), is that the S4 fenders line up with a S5 bumper, but they don't line up as clean as the S5 fenders do with a S5 bumper... It's really hard to tell unless you have them side by side... Which I did...

No, Fenders are identical other than minor mount hole differences.

They are not any wider... I just don't get how that myth keeps going. Proven here countless times to be the same width.

Proven how? Did you take measurements? I did a side by side comparison and they are different bottom line... Interchangable, but different nonetheless...

I have an S5 TII, and two S4 TII's (one with an aero kit), and the S4 TII appears to have one piece sideskirts, while the S5 is a two piece.. (unless the S4 TII sitting in the driveway doesnt have a stock aero kit, which it appears to be). Otherwise they pretty much look the same to me.

They don't match up, because the S4 bumpers have the moulding welt.

Otherwise you wouldn't be able to bolt on the S5 aftermarket kits onto a S4 car... Hmm like my S4 vert with the Shine S5 front bumper on it.

Its just a S5 owner thing, to think the fenders are flared wider on the S5 models.

if the mounting holes are slightly diff from s4 to s5, the diff looking at them side by side might just be the fact the holes were stamped in a diff position to give a slightly wider look when installed on the car. not actually having to make wider fenders.
however, i own an s4 and i just picked up an s5 today and i didnt seem to see any diff in width. on the other hand you guys are discussing an s4-s5 hybrid so to speak wich i have not personally done yet. but consider the first statement, which i am not an expert on either. just wanted to give my .02

Yeah the dimensions are virtually the same, body wise. Its just slighty different mounting holes for the front bumper. I was planning on doing this conversion also but have now decided against it because the mouldings on s4's and s5's at least to me are completly diffrent. The s5 mouldings are part of the body and the s4 has those detachable mouldings. In my opinion the s5's moulding are simlpy a lot sleaker and look a hell of a lot better. Theres really no way to match it even if those mouldings are removed and painted to match the s5. But really i am no autobody expert and am welcome to suggestions.
Just my .00000002 on that one.

That's wrong... Both S4 and S5 mouldings are detachable... S4's are glued on while S5's are held by clips... Also "virtually the same" and "the same", are not the same if ya know what I mean...

I've done this swap more than once, with all combinations of bumpers and fenders... I can assure you that the S5 bumper will NOT line up with S4 fenders as well as with S5 fenders... Yes it looks good enough to get by... It also looks almost as if there's no difference (until you have one S4 and one S5 fender on the same car)...

So why when I was shopping for a bodykit everyone I talked to through the seller(like bomex) said that the front end on the s4 is not as wide as the s5. Bomex and I quote "The frontend is wider therefore you will need slight modifacations, along with the trim WILL NOT match."

everyone has been comparing s4 fenders on an s5 bumper
so is it safe to say the s5 fenders wont line up the same on an s4 bumper??
i ask because i have a set of s5 fenders to replace the dented fender on my s4 and i was questioning the fitment in my head since i know from looking at body kits they always say its either for an s4 or s5 and would need modification for alternate years
