What's the Circular gunk behind the ACV?

I have my LIM off for polishing and I took the ACV off.

There is a weird circular area with some black stuff with a spider web like shape in it.

It somewhat comes off when wiping your finger over it but seems like it's in there on purpose.

What is this stuff? It come stock or did I get gremlins?

oh is that the EGR?

It's the big thing on the top external side of the LIM.

It is a rectangular area with a slant on one side.

There is a circular black gunk filled area 1 in in diameter.
Then there are 2-3 small holes for Vac or something to the left of it.

Is this the ACV? It's an S5 manifold so I don't think it has an EGR.

That port is where the AVC feeds air into the exhaust ports. The black disc is a check-valve to stop exhaust gases being pushed back up through the ACV. It is nothing to do with the EGR valve. The gunk is just exhaust residue like Ted said.

YUP.... clean all that gunk out before you put it back together.. and don't forget to put that valve back in.... you won't like it if you do!!!
