I'm pretty sure its not torsion, is it Viscous? cause it doesn't lock at all, and its frustrating.

Question. If I have a T2 diff off of the car and don't know if it is clutch (S4) or viscous (S5) is there a way to tell without opening it up? Such as turning it until it locks or something?

Thanks

Then buy a n/a diff and weld that. Don't ruin the t2 casing.

all the t2 diffs are lsd's. if you want an open diff you'll need the axels and a custom driveshaft to go with it. they are pretty cheap though (minus the driveshaft)

My S4 TII clutch type LSD has worked great for 140,000 miles between two different RX-7's above stock power levels. I believe they can wear out, but c'mon. A rebuild of the stock unit isn't going to blow up in a month....

Also, the Infini IV 2nd gens (JDM only) have a torsen style LSD in addition to the S4 and S5 clutch and viscous types. Plus I think Japan had TII's with open diffs too. They weren't the GT-X models, they were the other package. So I guess you can get any type of TII diff you want in OEM fashion.

The GT-R model got the open dif.

if you don't want to do the custom driveline bit, you're stuck with using a stock unit. just find someone parting out a Tii with low mileage. more likely to have a dif in decent condition.

basically the ring gear bolts on to a hub that drives the axles. Totally screws the handling. For a better idea it i gave a link to an rc car part below. Basically imagine a Ring gear on that and the stubs being the half shafts. Essentially a locker rear.

I have an s4 or s5 LSD available. I actually have the tranny back from an S4, and the S5 rearend is still in the car. If you are interested send me a PM. I am only a little over an hour from you, I could even bring it up if you want it.

that would be ANY sort of aftermarket LSD which uses a clutch pack.

1 way, 1.5 way and 2 way Limited Slip Diffs

OP, stick with an LSD.

you're not going to like driving characteristics of a welded diff/spool for very long, and neither will your tires.

But i can understand if cost is an issue.

But I can't understand it, if you are lazy.
