I looked in my Haynes manual and it said 87, but I have an 87 gxl and it doesn't have abs.

 

thats because it was an option to have it or not...

 

and the answer to your first ? is, I think, all the years but i don't know if the early 86 models had it...

 

I think it came standard on 89-91 Turbo II's and Convertibles. At least, it seems that it did.

 

I would say that nashman69g is correct that
it was an option in all years except for the 86.

every european S4 TII i saw does have ABS....

 

My 87 tii has abs. Ive seen a few that didnt.

 

my 91 vert has no abs

 

88-Option on GXL & Turbo
89/91-Standard on Turbo-Not available on others

 

So what 87 models had abs? Turbo and SE

 

i though all s5 except the vert had abs

I know my '87 does'nt have ABS.. the guy chose not to get it... It was an option on '87s and I don't think it was an option at all on 86 and below, obviously. The turbo 87 may have been the only model that ABS came standard on.

I don't suppose you can put an ABS system in aftermarket can you?? assuming you were the cash god?

I've only ever seen it on Turbo-IIs. I've looked at probably a hundred RX-7's in the SF Bay area and have never seen ABS on an N/A car, any year. I doubt if anyone ever ordered it as an option, if it was ever available on N/As.
