What would you buy

I am triyng to find out what you all would buy, car wise. Im looking for a 2nd gen 7, but im not sure exactly what year. As with alot of cars, the pre-90 and post-90 usually have some diffrences that people either like or dont. Also, whats the estimated price range for that year/model?

I would definitly try to get a hold of the S5 models. These are 89 though 91...They have extra horse power not seen in the 86-88 plus have a stonger electrical and computer system/parts...less failure. A turbo2 1991 rx7 would be a nice car to own, but so would a 1990 GTU depending on what you like, both these cars in good condition your looking +5k unless obviously you find a awesome deal, which sometimes does come along.

OK, just to spite dwillms I'm going to vote for the S4 models. Their lighter weight makes up for the horsepower difference yet adds to the handling characteristics, and the mechanical oil metering pump is a whole lot easier to deal with and doesn't cost $900 to replace like the S5 electrical pump. The older S4 models also cost less, and can use the cheaper 87 octane for both the turbo and non-turbo models.

All right, in fairness to the S5 models, they do have better ducts in the front end (good for racing), the fuel injection pulsation dampers don't leak and cause fires like the S4, and a lot of people like the round tail lights better (I could care less). Also, the S5 cars are newer, so you can usually find them in better shape.

I think that the important thing is to look around at what is available in your area, and get one that YOU like, rather than worrying about what kind of model it is. However, I recommend avoiding the automatic transmission models because of the expense involved in fixing the transmission. Oh, and one more thing, you should decide on whether to get a turbo or non-turbo car before you buy something, as it is not practical to convert the car later on. No, the turbo does not cost more for insurance, and it only gets about 1mpg less than the non-turbo, but it does cost a bit more for maintenance and the reliability is not quite as good.
