What will it take for me to take an LS1?

I have an 88 rx-7 (non turbo) and i was wondering what it would take to beat a stock LS1? It's a 2000 Camaro Z28 stock. This car is new to me and i don't know much yet. How much am i at a disadvantage and what should i do to the car in order to take this guy? I'm not looking for a turbo right now, so what can i do motor wise? Also, how much Rwhp do you think i have stock?

Thanks guys!

Since you dont have a turbo, you are at a major disadvantage. Most power you are probably getting to the wheels maybe 130-135hp. Also with the lack of torque from a rotary engine you really dont have a chance from launch. But on the other hand you can Gut the crap out of your car and put some coilovers on and will have a car that carves corners.

Wait you bought a late 80s sports car (that isn't even checked off on the performance option list) and you're trying to pin it against a 7 year old sports car that was maxed out for speed? I hope I don't surprise you when I tell you, you have no chance (without spending a hefty amount of money)

I'm just curious what it would take. Are there any mods that can get me there? Or, is it pretty much impossible without a turbo? A friend of mine has one non turbo and has a bunch of mods done to it. (same motor though) He says he thinks he is around 230Rwhp and in the high 12's? Does that make any sense, or is he just blowing smoke up my a$$?

Well nothing is impossible. I'd say strip the car, Maybe do an LS1 swap (please don't) or a 3 rotor engine (20b). With a 13b block however. you'd have to trade streetability for massive ports, hardened stationary gears, high output injectors, lighter rotors, and any other way possible to lower the rotational mass(flywheel, driveshaft, wheels, etc.).

Your friend is full of ****, he is doing ricer mod math. In reality, most modded street NA's make 150-175rwhp. I have seen a couple of 200-225rwhp NA setups with extensive porting and full aftermarket standalone EFI setups. To get that sort of power from an NA you have to put a lot of money into the setup that could net you better power with a turbo setup, a supercharger, or an engine swap.

race on a hill........you going downhill and the LS1 going uphill......the first one to realize silly this question is WINS TEH KOOKIE!!!!

or

NA RX7- 2000bux

every bolt-on imaginable plus tuning( minus turbo and the useless SC)-$2000

1/2 a tank of gas ( weight advantage ) 25 bux

realizing your 170rwhp/165lb. ft NA can't beat a 300hp/325lb. ft V8 and that you're not the retard of the week- PRICELESS.

in order for your 13b to win you would have to turbo it... and be in at least the 250 rwhp area to have a chance. Thats the minumum it would take. you are likely to never pull it off N/A without spending more money that it would cost to turbo the motor

a stock LS1 probably makes about 330rwhp, give or take 25. Your stock NA makes about 120, give or take 5. His car probably weighs a good 500lb more than yours. He is making between double and triple the hp you are. Think about that for a minute.

umm...yea lots of nitrous. even then its not very probable since those thing's dont slow down they go faster and faster. my car can easly outrun a tt z but i can only hold an ls1 off for 1rst and about half of second then the walking starts. basically even if your car was completely gutted(like mine) and all bolt on's and straight exshuast(like mine) you would still need at least a 50 shot to stand a chance.

Engine management...and lots of Nitrous. You'll need more fuel, better exhaust/intake. If you wanted to do it right now....you don't stand a chance.

full boltons and a 50 shot of nitrous with weight reduction and you could do it. A stock 02 LS1 'maro will do mid 13's

and please, nobody say "JUST WAIT TILL HE GETS TO THE TWISTIES" because he will get owned there too, because a maro has more power and way more tire

rofl, or an elephant as a passenger.

Can't see it happening. Turbo it. 6port turbos can make pretty good power, when done right (accompanying fuel/exhaust etc. mods).

N/a? No way.

Lots of Nitrous.

Stuff it in the guy's trunk and blow his car up.

And hope he can't outrun your NA on foot

Dude, You guys are missing the easiest way to race the guy.

Tell him he has to remove 4 of the spark plugs!!!!!!

S4 NA's dyno around 100-110rwhp stock.

i was thinking that too but once that thing hit's third gear its going to pull like a **** and fourth wont be too shabby ethier. my friend has an ls1 powered camaro and i can hold him off for at most two gears then his torque just takes over..with a 50 shot i think i could pull but who knows.

to the original poster you need to just race him heads up stock for stock and see first hand how much hes going to literally own you im talking like 15-20 car ownage! and thats stock add intake cam or header and add another sec on his 1/4 time.

I think that is going a bit far. A guy on an F-body forum I was looking at asked how he could get his late nineties camaro to handle like his friend's late 80's supra and the aswer was "you can't."

And since the 7 handles better than a supra from the same time period, it follows that it would handle way better than a camaro.

"handling" is subjective. Sure, the 7 will 'feel better' in turns, have better balance, etc. But it also has ***** *** 205s for tires and 120rwhp if you're lucky.

And this is coming from a guy who has spent more money and made more power on his n/a than most people here...
