What wears out on the power window switch
Hey guys, my power window switch crap to bed. What usually go bad on it? Mine is not the contact, its on the black switch part itself. One of the piece broke. So now i have to stick my fnger into the white thing to open or close my window. Great timing since it hit 60 today

I take it you have a Series 5, and it's your drivers side switch your talking about.
The strength of the plastic rocker arms on the Series 5 switch's are suspect. Dealt with that myself. What happens is the contacts get dirty, so we pull a little harder to force the contacts to a cleaner spot.
Now knowing, when that happens what should be done is simply take the switch apart and clean the contacts so we don't pull on the rocker arm so hard.
Best, and unless you are REALLY meticulous, the only fix is to replace it. Drivers side switch's are by far the more expensive.
About the meticulous part.......if you find a passenger side for cheaper, then if your REALLY careful you can pry the rocker arm from it and press into your otherwise good drivers switch. But clean the contacts first. Also, make sure any little residual plastic pieces from the broken rocker arm is removed before trying the retro fit.
Good luck.

I dont think the problem is with the contact (the actual circuit board and the 2 white thing. I currently have it in place since I have no rocket arms. I think the part that wears out is the rocket arm itself. Mine actually broke after close inspection, can they pry out easily?
